Hot damn... picking up my axle tomorrow, he's even pulling it for me for $50... im going to call the big salvage yard tomorrow do a bit of social engineering and tell them i needed the high pinion and i got this low pinion and see if maybe they would trade since its already pulled (their usually "you pull it" if you have half common sense to ya, it so i dont think they would mind)

i just hope he doesn't gut the axle on me though, i did mention i only needed the housing to him, but i dont know if he remembered that or not... but i'd like to grab some spare parts out of it, aka the inner axles, bearings, and knuckles..

Are the gears supposed to be the same in the HP as what you've got? If so hopefully he leaves them in cause their not interchangable.
Talk about a "Doh!" moment, I completely forgot about that bloody gasket and I've done the same thing myself. Had to go cut a piece out of a cereal box to space it out.
Electrical gremlins...god I love those things. The dashlights and headlights would go out in the CJ everyonce in awhile. A good bang on top of the dash would usually convince them to come back on. So far been very lucky with the WJ, none have surfaced yet. The ZJ on the other hand needs a full blown exorsism.

yeah, i've got an electrical gremlin in my WJ, the lights on the AC controls are on the frits and need a love tap in order to get them to turn on every once in a while... im tackling that this week aswell..

yeah the high pinion is a whole nother' monster, reverse cut teeth, and a longer thicker pinion no swapping with my stock 3.55 gears...

see im thinking im going to trade for 4.10 gear or 4.58 geared HP30, from a 4 banger XJ, the first HP i found the teeth were sharp as a knife, and he wanted way too much for it... but whatever i get up front im going to match in the back when i re-gear my 35...

so i might be stuck on the road for a while... or have some nasty wheel hop if i engage 4 low... but im in NC... just the hills are still 3 hours away from me... mountains another 6 on top of that...

Well I think I found a solution to my "no lights in the shifter" problem. Found 2 small 12v lights from some old guages and some green fingernail polish from the daughter and I should have lights in there finally.
What gears do you have in there now? 3.73's? It might chew the T/C apart if you put it in 4wd with the different gear ratios. Might be better to just drop the front driveshaft until you can get the rear re-geared. 4.10/ 4.11's would be good for up to 33's with good torque and still decent mileage. 4.58's are good for up to 35's but horrid for mileage and the Jeep's are already thirsty as it is.

grumble grumble...

my WJ had 3.55's in it. (39 ring/11 pinion)

AFAIK the transfercase while in 2wd is completely neutral to the front axle so even if it were to spin faster than the rear output since theres no load going to it, it should be fine...

rain put off home boy from removing the axle today... hopefully he gets on it tommorow. cause im dying to take it for a spin, its been too long and i want to see if my throttle body mods have helped. (and i might throw in a spacer for laughs)

Yeah it will be fine in 2wd, but you don't want to put it in 4lo or else say bye-bye to either the T/C or a driveshaft.
When I first got my Jeep stepping on the gas pedal was almost a joke. No go at all, I put the K&N on and that made a big improvement but still nothing on the bottom end. After putting on the TB spacer there was more response off the line and I lost about 1 mpg with it on. Definately wasn't worth the money I paid for it.

The problem with the TB is that it is only 52mm, so having a 63mm TB and a 63mm intake isn't doing much good. When I get some time I'm going to bore out the spacer plate to 63mm and see what happens.

Yeah im going to fab up a spacer, since i can get a block for around $15... i'll build my own, wonder if that helix crap is worth a damn or what, i really doubt it cause how is it going to get the flow just perfect into each intake valve... but check this out.

see thats what im thinking of putting in place of that stupid scratched up, always fading cladding... just a simple strip of aluminum... thats 1/8"x3/4" 8ft stick... the whole width of it is approx 1.5" i never got out the tape measure... this is the stuff i had lying around...

but id be going flat black with it... (might go over the Grand Cherokee in Flat Black too... not 100% on that just yet...)

i dont know where i stand on it, i like the idea of going wider, but then it turns into a securing it down issue, this will be super easy to secure, countersunk screws into the doors and drill the fenders and bolt them on... (till i trim the fenders for the bigger rubber that is much needed)

your $0.02 anyone?

A couple of guy's over at JF have pulled the cladding off completely and replaced it with aluminum. Haven't seen any final pics yet but I think it should look pretty good.
I've been thinking about doing the 2 raised sections on the hood in flat black to get rid of some of the overhead light glare and this is where I get the majority of big rock chips. Make it a little easier to maintain.
