Yeah on the east coast (well NB really) the problem is not even being able to get anything performance without a 4 hour drive to a major city... and even then its IF they have it...

it is easier getting things down here for sure, there's a lot of good warehouses (American tire distributor warehouse is here in town (feed a lot of the major tire shops), nothing better than ordering a set of tires and getting them in a few hours :-P they'll even let you pick them up too if you go to a dealer and call the warehouse over phone and see if they have them... i know Down East Offroad uses them a lot...

so i've been playing with the 42RE... Jay doesn't have the stuff to weld the cast, and would take him a while to track it down cause he's going to do some research on it...

but i made it much worse, to make it much better... (metal file, and dremel are my only friends) and im confident its not going to leak anymore... I cleaned the area around the crack with Acetone, and the nastiest Brake Parts Cleaner i could find (ironically the cheapest)...

Test fit, and its nice and snug, just a big gap just about everywhere. time to add some JB Weld.

retap the hole, and I might have this thing squared away.

If you can I'd even try to pin it in a couple of spots with some brass screws to help take some of the flex out of the joint.

its holding up really good actually... i picked up most of the tranny's weight by the cracked piece and it didn't go anywhere... so thats good!

I've found that the JB Weld Sticks are better than the individual tubes. as far as how well they hold up once hardened. the tubes seem to have a low tensile strength, its either that or im not doing a 50/50 mix like they say... but can get into the very small spots... the stick is just cut to the approx. size and whip it all together...

i just got my tranny gasket and filter when i went for lunch... found the right tap for the pan bolts (i had stripped 3 of them apparently, went to put in helicoils and used the wrong tap so i filled the holes with JB Weld and am going to tap them to the 5/16 18 thread that they really are.

im thinking i've got this thing beat... it'll get me on the road when i grab the axle friday, and should hold up permanently or till i swap it out for the 5speed... cause im feeling determined to do that :-P

well its holding up i've slammed the tranny around a few times (i dont have a tranny jack) and it slipped off of my regular jack...

but i gave it a leak test (flipping it so the fluid is over the cracked area, after 20 minutes, no drips or leaks, lets hope it holds up till i get some income again )

Hopefully i get it in tomorrow, guy still hasn't moved his jeep, might give him a call and say well if its going to sit, let me put my bent one in.

i found a buddy who's got a ZJ and is looking for some HP so im going to sell him my stock WJ throttle body i've modified abit. and hes got a messed up CV joint, so i might be able to get a few bucks out of him, probably cover all my expenses right there... he might get one of the ZJ's CV joints or inner axles since mine are low miles, im keeping them for me...

might give him a checkout and see if he has a 242HD transfer case and see if he doesn't mind a swap for my 242LD, i know the ZJ and WJ wheelbase are the same length, so im assuming the driveshafts will be the same length...

but there are no jobs in the states, and i dont have enough drug addictions to get a simpletons job, so im screwed out of work, IF their interested in me, their waiting to hire back people they laid off before they hire me... it is really getting on my nerves...

hopefully Friday i'll have a security license in BC and can talk to this outfit and get out there ASAP.
they said they'd pay for my relocation, is that going to include gas out there and a place to stay? i figure you might know dan... im just wondering what not to ask for to turn them off of me.

Driveshafts may be close on length, sometimes the yokes are slightly different but that's an easy switch.
Most places re-imburse your expenses so save all your reciepts. Gas, food, hotels, etc. But you'll probably have to find a place to stay first. If your going to Fort St.John there are a couple decent apartment buildings close to Centenial Park.

Next time you go for an interview pin your name and phone number on your shirt. Dribble some water so it looks like you've been drooling and if there's anything shiny in the office keep glancing over at it during the interview. You should be getting a cheque before you leave the building. lol

i should just go to prison...

well in a way that is a solution. the Electrical company i worked for a few years back MAY be willing to rehire me temporarily, the only problem is i dont have half of my tools with me, i moved to low voltage stuff, side cutters and things of that nature got mixed with my low voltage stuff, and had been left in my old work truck... i know for a fact my conduit bender is at the office, when i stopped by when i got back i was playing golf with it as i usually did around the office HAHA... but i know id be needing that and i could get back to work...

but yea the prison thing, their building an extension to the new supermax prison in Raleigh. many hands make light work, but im used to doing light easy work... as long as they stick me on 3/4" and 1" i'll be happy, but if i get thrown on 5" Rigid im going to be PISSED. and about as ripped as some of the guys on the inside HAHA

Think of it as getting paid to exercise all day, then you'll be in good shape for when you sink the Jeep and have to dig it out.
Conduit bending isn't something I miss doing especially anything over 1" by hand.

Any luck with the HP30 yet? Phoned around here for parts and the wreckers want almost as much as new parts.

no such luck, not having anything in the wallet is kinda fading that search out... finding alot of vacuum disco's dirt cheap -$50, come and get its... I was sorta thinking about picking one up just to see if i can make an E locker out of it. (weld the side gears to the carrier) and just unlock the disco when im not out and about...

probably a waste of time and money.

the guy i met with the ZJ sounds like my answer though, sell him a inner axle from the $50 axle for $50, i get the dana 30 housing i really need free, and use my WJ's axles, and bearings...

sell him my old modded throttle body, see if he'd swap transfer cases... it would get me back on the road free, and an upgrade to 242HD and give him some lower miles on the LD...

on completely ridiculous thoughts... I did find a Dana 35, 30 spline chromoly axles, welded tubes, relocated shock mounts,Yukon 4.56 ring and pinion with a busted locker for $200

since im likely to rebuild my front R&P, i could just put in a 4.56 up front, and fix the locker when i get a chance...

See if you can convince the border guards that the HP30 on your hood is an ornament and bring me back one. I'm lucky if I can get a stripped down axle up here for less than 800.00
