Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

great... now i cant find the little chunky piece... UGH

i might have to fab up something to go in the gap... i might cut more and weld in some flat aluminum stock, and re tap that hole... i think thats my best option

Found it... left it in the Excursion :-P

didn't get around to talking to jay, i know he left for a while so i'll have to ask him tommorow...
im glad i got that thing out, theres a tropical storm hitting us this weekend... RAD...

Perfect timing, the tranny is out of the Jeep and a storm comes. Have fun. :)
If that's hurricane danny that's coming your way I'll try to miss you.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i didnt notice anything but maybe a hour of rain... and not even enough to bring in my dog...

its a real nice sunny day... and jays out in the corvette... ugh.. wait some more...

I decided to take the cladding off the side of my jeep... i've always hated it, and its such a pain to keep from fading... yea it protects the paint but who cares... i could go and bed liner it black if i wanted to... but i think im going to leave it alone...but i think i have an idea to cover up the holes...

get some 2" thick flat bar (aluminum or steel) and secure it thru a couple of those holes... and seal the rest of them up from the inside... i think that would look a million times better... and if its steel then its reinforcement and nothing to be laughed at LOL...

since eventually i'm going to put steel bumpers front and rear... why not get rid of that god awful stuff...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Corvette= Fast, Shiny, RTI Ramp

I'm assuming prices for sheets of aluminum are cheaper in the states or at least cheaper than McMurray. Would definately give it a different look.
I don't mind the cladding now that I've Kryloned it, but when it was the faded gray colour I was thinking of tearing it all off.
Just about have the money set aside for a winching bumper from Iceland Offroad so that will be one more thing off the to do list.
First priority is tires right now.

Corvette wont be tall enough when im done with my jeep :-P

i know what you mean, i've sourced an axle, but the guy wont get back to me... the axle has a different connector than the fixed yoke i have, so that'll have to get swapped, but i believe its 3.55 gears so i wont have to deal with that... id probably swap axle's, spindles and bearings since mine dont even have 80k miles on them, and appear to be true... i can save those for spares...

other big thing is my parents just replaced a perfectly good battery, with one thats the same as in my jeep... and i was thinking of picking up a pair of deep cycles... i could return my battery as hers and get the cash back and save it for the deep cycles... kinda shady i know, but still... times are tough and i shouldn't have bought that 1000CCA battery in the first place...

im a few months away from a winch...(although i do have my front bumper off... hmmmm) gonna go steel when i start working some... i hate getting down into my reserve cash... then if i get this job in BC sigh... that would be great

i've got alot friggin going on with this jeep, and i really should focus on getting it on the road again nevermind all the upgrades... sigh... its a cruel world...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Never seems to be enough time, I pulled the battery tray awhile ago and it looks like there is room for 2 stacked batteries there but they would have to be laid on their side. Just haven't had the time to fab up anything lately. The list keeps getting longer instead of shorter.
Was talking to Bryant from KOR on the weekend and their making up different prototypes of TC skid plates. The one they are looking at making replaces the tranny x-member so you gain about an inch. Told them I'd like a hybrid of their's and IRO's. Replace the x-member and go side to side across the "frame" rails to protect the cat and stiffen it up a bit to. He said they would take a look at it so hopefully...

CrazyWJ242 08-31-2009 10:37 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yeah i saw that on KOR, but the link didn't yield a result on the new site... was kinda wondering what was happening there... but its good news for us none the less... i know i can get that sorta thing fabricated for materials, which are definitely cheaper down here... i think thats why half of this stuff is on my mind now...

that and when i get home, i wont have to worry about my rig so much, i'll know she's covered in armor

04WJGuy 08-31-2009 02:27 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I want to get my hands on the JK pinion armor and modify it for the 30 and 35. Build a truss for the 35 and move the rear shock mounts inboard of the frame/wheel well.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Finally talked to the guy with the jeep, he's going to let me get the axle for $50... i just have to wait till the end of the week till he tows it to his junkyard... sweet

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I think I'm going to start to dislike you...:)
It's amazing that ordering from the states on a lot of stuff is still cheaper than buying it locally. It annoys the hell out of me at times.
When the gf ordered the MX-6's she checked around a lot of the shops I've got listed and the cheapest she could find them was 850.00 delivered. She called Nick (Kolak) and they were on the doorstep gst, exchange, shipping total was 520.00 CDN

CrazyWJ242 09-01-2009 02:16 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yeah on the east coast (well NB really) the problem is not even being able to get anything performance without a 4 hour drive to a major city... and even then its IF they have it...

it is easier getting things down here for sure, there's a lot of good warehouses (American tire distributor warehouse is here in town (feed a lot of the major tire shops), nothing better than ordering a set of tires and getting them in a few hours :-P they'll even let you pick them up too if you go to a dealer and call the warehouse over phone and see if they have them... i know Down East Offroad uses them a lot...

so i've been playing with the 42RE... Jay doesn't have the stuff to weld the cast, and would take him a while to track it down cause he's going to do some research on it...

but i made it much worse, to make it much better... (metal file, and dremel are my only friends) and im confident its not going to leak anymore... I cleaned the area around the crack with Acetone, and the nastiest Brake Parts Cleaner i could find (ironically the cheapest)...

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...d-into-one.jpg

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...-but-nasty.jpg

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...asty-crack.jpg

Test fit, and its nice and snug, just a big gap just about everywhere. time to add some JB Weld.

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...nly-friend.jpg

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...-hard-rock.jpg

retap the hole, and I might have this thing squared away.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

If you can I'd even try to pin it in a couple of spots with some brass screws to help take some of the flex out of the joint.

CrazyWJ242 09-01-2009 03:39 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

its holding up really good actually... i picked up most of the tranny's weight by the cracked piece and it didn't go anywhere... so thats good!

I've found that the JB Weld Sticks are better than the individual tubes. as far as how well they hold up once hardened. the tubes seem to have a low tensile strength, its either that or im not doing a 50/50 mix like they say... but can get into the very small spots... the stick is just cut to the approx. size and whip it all together...

i just got my tranny gasket and filter when i went for lunch... found the right tap for the pan bolts (i had stripped 3 of them apparently, went to put in helicoils and used the wrong tap so i filled the holes with JB Weld and am going to tap them to the 5/16 18 thread that they really are.

im thinking i've got this thing beat... it'll get me on the road when i grab the axle friday, and should hold up permanently or till i swap it out for the 5speed... cause im feeling determined to do that :-P

04WJGuy 09-01-2009 05:15 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Hopefully it holds up, it's definatley going to be a one of a kind if you manage to get it to work.

CrazyWJ242 09-09-2009 10:27 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

well its holding up i've slammed the tranny around a few times (i dont have a tranny jack) and it slipped off of my regular jack...

but i gave it a leak test (flipping it so the fluid is over the cracked area, after 20 minutes, no drips or leaks, lets hope it holds up till i get some income again :alcoholic: )

Hopefully i get it in tomorrow, guy still hasn't moved his jeep, might give him a call and say well if its going to sit, let me put my bent one in.

i found a buddy who's got a ZJ and is looking for some HP so im going to sell him my stock WJ throttle body i've modified abit. and hes got a messed up CV joint, so i might be able to get a few bucks out of him, probably cover all my expenses right there... he might get one of the ZJ's CV joints or inner axles since mine are low miles, im keeping them for me...

might give him a checkout and see if he has a 242HD transfer case and see if he doesn't mind a swap for my 242LD, i know the ZJ and WJ wheelbase are the same length, so im assuming the driveshafts will be the same length...

but there are no jobs in the states, and i dont have enough drug addictions to get a simpletons job, so im screwed out of work, IF their interested in me, their waiting to hire back people they laid off before they hire me... it is really getting on my nerves...

hopefully Friday i'll have a security license in BC and can talk to this outfit and get out there ASAP.
they said they'd pay for my relocation, is that going to include gas out there and a place to stay? i figure you might know dan... im just wondering what not to ask for to turn them off of me.

04WJGuy 09-10-2009 08:10 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Driveshafts may be close on length, sometimes the yokes are slightly different but that's an easy switch.
Most places re-imburse your expenses so save all your reciepts. Gas, food, hotels, etc. But you'll probably have to find a place to stay first. If your going to Fort St.John there are a couple decent apartment buildings close to Centenial Park.

Next time you go for an interview pin your name and phone number on your shirt. Dribble some water so it looks like you've been drooling and if there's anything shiny in the office keep glancing over at it during the interview. You should be getting a cheque before you leave the building. lol

CrazyWJ242 09-11-2009 12:20 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i should just go to prison...

well in a way that is a solution. the Electrical company i worked for a few years back MAY be willing to rehire me temporarily, the only problem is i dont have half of my tools with me, i moved to low voltage stuff, side cutters and things of that nature got mixed with my low voltage stuff, and had been left in my old work truck... i know for a fact my conduit bender is at the office, when i stopped by when i got back i was playing golf with it as i usually did around the office HAHA... but i know id be needing that and i could get back to work...

but yea the prison thing, their building an extension to the new supermax prison in Raleigh. many hands make light work, but im used to doing light easy work... as long as they stick me on 3/4" and 1" i'll be happy, but if i get thrown on 5" Rigid im going to be PISSED. and about as ripped as some of the guys on the inside HAHA

04WJGuy 09-11-2009 05:48 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Think of it as getting paid to exercise all day, then you'll be in good shape for when you sink the Jeep and have to dig it out.
Conduit bending isn't something I miss doing especially anything over 1" by hand.

Any luck with the HP30 yet? Phoned around here for parts and the wreckers want almost as much as new parts.

CrazyWJ242 09-11-2009 06:26 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

no such luck, not having anything in the wallet is kinda fading that search out... finding alot of vacuum disco's dirt cheap -$50, come and get its... I was sorta thinking about picking one up just to see if i can make an E locker out of it. (weld the side gears to the carrier) and just unlock the disco when im not out and about...

probably a waste of time and money.

the guy i met with the ZJ sounds like my answer though, sell him a inner axle from the $50 axle for $50, i get the dana 30 housing i really need free, and use my WJ's axles, and bearings...

sell him my old modded throttle body, see if he'd swap transfer cases... it would get me back on the road free, and an upgrade to 242HD and give him some lower miles on the LD...

on completely ridiculous thoughts... I did find a Dana 35, 30 spline chromoly axles, welded tubes, relocated shock mounts,Yukon 4.56 ring and pinion with a busted locker for $200

since im likely to rebuild my front R&P, i could just put in a 4.56 up front, and fix the locker when i get a chance...

04WJGuy 09-12-2009 01:33 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

See if you can convince the border guards that the HP30 on your hood is an ornament and bring me back one. I'm lucky if I can get a stripped down axle up here for less than 800.00

CrazyWJ242 09-12-2009 02:31 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

well if i can get my hands on one for a silly price you know its yours.
im planning on bringing up all my stuff and i'll tell them at the boarder, yea these are my spares, you break these sorta things ALOT...

on the other sidetrack i've got going on...
im looking at clearing 15" rims over my calipers without a ton of backspacing the rim.. going to have to break out the grinder and take out a bit of unnecessary meat... i just want more variety and cheaper prices on my tires...

that and additional grip at lower PSI's

04WJGuy 09-13-2009 05:13 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Did the debate about if I should go with 15" or 16" a couple years ago. Even aired down to 12psi I've yet to pop a tire off the rim, I've heard air escaping buit so far so good. For now I'm going to stick with the 16". I've got 1 1/4" spacers on it anyways so backspacing isn't a problem with the stock rims and I'm running 32's now and at the most I might eventually get 33's.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

great i broke my transmission output speed sensor... RAD

still havn't got this thing in, i just about had it, then noticed my torque converter slid out, and in the process of reseating it, it slipped off the jack, and the output sensor hit the jack in the back...

i swear i just want to invest in a garage of tools and lifts and things of that nature, so i dont have to worry about breaking something doing it the hard way...

hopefully i get it in tomorrow, and get my axle by friday, cause im really dying to take the thing for a drive... im having withdrawals...

And ofcourses what did it do last night... RAIN...

I Hate North Carolina.

CrazyWJ242 09-16-2009 02:27 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

sweetbabyjesus its on... i've still got to bolt up the torque converter, but its on...

reinstalling a transmission, is NOT a one man operation...
i couldn't care less if it leaks after this... its back in.

04WJGuy 09-16-2009 06:25 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

What are your thoughts on modding it for a 5 speed now? :D
Glad to here it's in and hopefully it won't leak on you. Now for the HP30! and the 242HD. Actually I don't think your going to see the daylight for a while yet.

CrazyWJ242 09-16-2009 08:36 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

well i havn't filled it back up yet, just reconnected everything and made sure it was goodentight... front axle, and 242HD swap hopefully this weekend...

as far as the 5 speed goes, it think its still a plan, who wants to keep an eye on that big of a structural crack held together with JB Weld... its too large of an area to forget about, so im defiantly going to persue the 5speed option, or a new 42RE or higher...

going to see about my Air intake temperature sensor, see what i can do about that check engine light coming on... and get a new output speed sensor... sigh...

i just need to get back to work... does it ever help fund endeavors like this, and make things go by faster...

CrazyWJ242 09-16-2009 11:27 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

no need to fill it up when i can see the crack on the outside...
when i was putting the pan back on, i noticed it... more JB Weld and hope it doesn't leak anymore... HAHA... 5 speed here i come!

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

YEA... so the other day i noticed a spiderweb in my jeep by the gas pedal, i think nothing of it and just take out the web with my gloves on...

today i walk out and grab the ATF+4 and notice that tell tale red hourglass on his back...

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2699269_n.jpg

kinda blurry, but yea...
there BAD in North Carolina...
thats a freaking black widow... :alcoholic:

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Dan, after a bit of research i've found the best odds for a HP D30 that you wouldn't necessarily have to regear (if your planning on running 4.58)

2.5L XJ's should have a HP Dana 30, and it'll already have 4.10 or 4.58 gears
to get a High Pinion, just avoid the 2000-01 XJ as they have the low pinion.

i have yet to find out which models are vacuum disco's, seems to be a mixed bag situation... but if you plan on upgrading axles what does it matter, as you can get the bypass kit...

i might make a trip out to the junkyards tomorrow, and see if any of them can work with me on the price of the axle so i can get a high pinion, if i bring in my bent one for them who knows...

on other news, i think i may have fixed my transmission output sensor, wonderful soldering gun, and melted down the plastic to secure it all together back in place, no reason it shouldn't work, but its on my list of things to replace.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I hate those freekin' things, had enough of them in Oakland. I never knew you had them in NC.
Looking at 4.10's or 4.11's with an Elocker, won't be running anything larger than 32" on this one and it's still going to be a DD (on steroids).
I know I've got that info around somewhere, now to find it...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well i went to fire it up, and it's turning over, but no fire, check the codes, 0320 (crank sensor on the tranny) and 1490 1498, two relays...

i've got the crank sensor in front of me, and there's not so much as a scratch on it, and the magnet is plenty strong... made sure it had a good connection too... going to go throw it back in and be a cave man and prey for fire. :alcoholic:

my camshaft sensor just decided to quit on me Friday evening. turned over but did not fire!!

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Ignore the 1490/98 codes, they always appear when you crank the engine to long without it firing. Fan overspeed, fan underspeed.
Are all the pins straight and clean? Sometimes it's something just that stupid or the tranny isn't fully in park. Did you hear the fuel pump buzzing away when you turned the key?
Good luck, hope it fires up for ya.

CrazyWJ242 09-21-2009 02:12 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yeah i just saw your post...
i put the sensor back in and still nothing... what the hell...
grrr

i even checked my plugs, their "normally worn" little brown-ish and a little grey on the electrode... im just having the hardest time believing this sensor has gone bad...

yeah checked the pins and its all copenhagen... fuel pump is buzzing like normal
the thing is its turning the crank, if the park neutral switch was off it shouldn't let me do that...

04WJGuy 09-21-2009 02:16 PM

Have you tried to start it in neutral?

Just watch out for the damn spiders. Try changing out the starter relay with the horn. See if it does anything. The neutral switch is in tight? Brake pedal/ trans interlock is operating?

CrazyWJ242 09-21-2009 03:02 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

switch is in tight, even flipping it does not remedy the start issue, no start in neutral, still turns over no fire and 0320 code..

brake trans interlock working just fine...

im about to break out the hammer...

Just don't hit it anywhere that would set the airbags off, I think that would be the end of the Jeep :D
If I think of anything else I'll let you know. You do realize it's probably something incredibly simple...
