I pulled up the cover at the front of the roof rack and drilled a hole through there then pulled the wires above the headliner to the b pillar and then along the floor. A little silicon under the cover and screw back down. No leaks so far.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

nice , did u put anything around the wires going through to stop them from getting striped and shorting out ?

CrazyWJ242 03-13-2009 03:12 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yep thats exactly what i was looking to do was right around there, i have these nifty water tight plugs just drill 1/4" hole and it allows you to run some 18/2 thru and keeps it watertight... only thing is its plastic, and snaps if you over tighten, having it under the plastic piece looks so much better and is probably going to be the route that i go...

i was thinking about running a set of speakers up on the back rack, on stands that can rotate, that way the late night i can point the spots around, and jam some tunes and not get muffled by the interior of the vehicle...

ofcourse have a mic installed aswell for PA services lol

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Used a rubber grommet and siliconed everything. It's been close to a year and no leaks yet.
Crazy, your not one of those guy's that after a couple wobblie pops think that thier Axl Rose are you!??!

Noooooooo! :alcoholic: :smilie_auslachen:
but i do like to party.

i was thinking about the spare tire area, im thinking maybe an air compressor and other gear like that... wondering how much work would be involved squaring it out... so i can secure some recovery gear under there...

04WJGuy 03-14-2009 05:31 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

That's why my spare is on the roof, all the recovery gear and hand tools are in the tire well. I was looking at the Viaair compressors but was having a hard time justifying 300.00 for a tiny comp. happened to be at crappy tire and I just picked up a 1/3hp compressor with a 3 gallon tank for 60.00 on sale. Takes about 4 1/2 minutes to get to 100psi, but it fits right into the curve on the right side in the back. I'm going to make a hook for it so it will tighten down on the floor hook right under it. Only problem with it is that it is NOISY, if your in the vehicle when it's running you better have ear plugs in.
It's 110v / 2Amp so I can run it with the power inverter. Should be able to run it with a 400 watt inverter so you don't have to have a huge one to power it.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I've already got a Cobra 1000W heheh
i got a deal on it... FREE!!! yea BLOWN FUSE... seriously... i love idiots

i just have to run a higher gauge wire to the back, i think i have 8AWG maybe, like good for 800w or something like that... need 2/0 me thinks... then a splitting block, something i can run my amplifier off of aswell... not that that's important...

i got the under the hood lights in, 2x 1W LED lights angled back down when its popped up all the way so its pointed on either side of the straight six, lights up nice... have pics but cant find the cord for my stupid Sony camera, and cant find the memory stick adapter either... ARGH

thinking of waiting for warmer weather before putting up the lights on the roof rack, and waiting for a few more weeks to do the lift/alignment...

04WJGuy 03-15-2009 02:55 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I've got a 1000w in my Jeep, since your only supposed to run a max of 5.5' of #2 I mounted it under the dash behind the console and then ran 14/2 to the back with a 110 outdoor outlet. Put a toggle switch in the dash so I can have on/off so I don't have to worry about it getting hot under there.
I like to be self-suficcient when out in the bush. Once I get the sub box finished I'm going to mount the 110 box in there so when you open the hatch the plugs right there, will be able to charge up both sets of FRS radios to if I need to.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Thanks, I now have something else to do to mine and gf's Jeeps, I forgot about the underhood lights. Were did you get your LED's?
The other thing I have to do (besides finish the gf's Jeep off) is to make a roof rack to go between the light bar and the tire carrier for gas cans. Have to see if I can scrounge up some 3/8" bar stock.
I'm starting to feel like niether one of these things is ever going to be done.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i salvaged these from a pair of flashlights actually, manufacturer is Coast... and they are some serious lights! (their the only flash lights id buy, i have a 7736D in the driver door, which doubles as a roadflare/nightvision map light, and a T7 which is my business light lol) the lens is maybe 1/2" tall, and I had these ideal 1.5" round but like angled chrome base block things (i think they came with my tweeter upgrades), but i just marked and drilled 3 holes and tapped the hood reinforcement bit and fished my wires thru and a bit of armored flex cord next to the hinge... i was thinking of installing a kill switch so it automatically comes on when its popped... but i dunno... i like control

really need to just show ya, they look good, and are getting painted to match the colour of the jeep, for that extra bit of detail...

sorry i gave you a good idea lol!
i just think its handy as all hell considering they dont have any lights under the hood lol

uploaded a few pics i had on my pc to my album up here...

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...needs-lift.jpg

man i really need that lift to look more aggressive

Other thing I'm thinking is going over the Jeep on the hood, Grand Cherokee on the sides, and Jeep 4x4 in flat black... as well as the trim over the airbag... all Grey/Aluminum go to flat black like the grill...

maybe the rims too
already did the Jeep center cap on the stock rims

just added a Magnaflow exhaust to my 2000 GC LTD. It has a 4.7l and she soun freakin' great! just tryin to get some stock rims now though. Will 2002 rims off a GC fit my 2000?

04WJGuy 03-16-2009 03:32 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yeah all the WJ rims were/ are 5x5 so they will fit.
Crazy, I didn't realize yours was black to (or is it charcoal?), looks dark blue/gray in your avatar. The gf just bought a black 04 (the one I'm working on right now) so when we're parked side by side they look like bookends. Get your lift and we'll meet halfway and do a black 04 Jeep run. lol
She also has a mint 98 ZJ that I'm not aloud to touch other than tune-up's.

"Aww Man..."

lol gotta get the lift ugh!!!

its weird though, i go from seeing literally HUNDREDS of Grand Cherokees (every other girl in a college town in the states has a jeep or a mustang) to having one of the nicest in town (i think i've only seen like 4 WJ's here in town...) and i dont even have a lift...

04WJGuy 03-16-2009 07:04 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I bought mine in 2005 and nobody here in McMurray had a lifted WJ, lot's of soccer mom's. Everybody thought I was crazy when I told them what I was driving, even the guy's in the parts stores were looking at me going "you wheel in that"?
Now there are a couple of pavement princess' and a couple other guy's that I'm starting to see out on the local trails.
Tried to get a pic of one yesterday but the cell phone doesn't take good pics. 04 WJ that had been...I don't know what...all I know is that I wanted to cut him off and beat him with one of his 22" bling rims with the 1" of tire on it.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yea a guy around the block from me in the states had a lowered, silver grand, "blinged" rims, rubber band tires, body kit, mirrored window tint, green neon lights under it, the halo ring headlights and smoke taillights... just eww...

i ran into him at the dog park, and he looked at me just after i started it up, and threw him a little rev, he did back... STOCK with a fart can tip... then i pegged mine out and laughed HAHA

he tried to get me off of a red light as well... i bet him to the speed limit for sure, but like a pompous ass, he took it probably to 110kph in a 50kph zone... right around campus... like thats just stupid...

04WJGuy 03-17-2009 02:41 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

You described this one to a tee, just blacked out with red neon. Makes me want to go and ask him what the Jeep ever did to deserve that. For some reason though I don't think he would understand.

Black Jeep, Charcoal Jeep we're all equals in mud's eyes.

The halfway point apparently would be some flyspeck called Nezah in Ontario. Can you imagine if we could get a bunch of Jeepers together for a week and just decend on some poor unsuspecting village. According to Google there is an abundance of old logging roads and black bears, sounds perfect to me.

CrazyWJ242 03-17-2009 10:13 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i've got logging roads galore out here, just switch to the satellite images of northern New Brunswick and my part of Quebec as I'm literally 6 blocks away from the river lol

i know the back entrances to a few abandoned gravel pits all over the area as well... good jeepin trails, then some good clean gravel pit fun! some crazy modified jeep only trails, hill climbs, you name it... just wait for the spring/summer pics/videos to come out... alot of fun stuff in my area

im just glad to be out of the city... lol small towns for life haha

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I agree with you there, even Fort McMurray is getting to big. Can't wait to get out of here permanently, me and the gf are living in Blairmore right now and we're going to be moving to Okotoks in the next few months. Going to be great to go wheeling in the mountains whenever I want instead of in the muskeg.

Put on a spare tire today. it is not in very good condition. I need tires. but it is not lifted yet. SIGH. so I am going with 235/85r16 or 265/75r16 for tires. BFG Mud terrain tires on clearence locally here. $176 each. going to see if I can get it installed at that price. likely will cause my brother knows a sales person there and just bought 2 sets of tires for his vehicle. I am prepared for major rubbing....LOL nothing a knife and plasma cutter wont fix.

04WJGuy 03-18-2009 09:02 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

265/75-16's are going to rub pretty good if you don't have a lift. Most guy's won't go that size until their around 3.5-4" of lift.
I just lucked out last night, my buddy's wife just started working at Kal Tire so she told me to call her before I bought my new tires this spring. 45% employee discount!!

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Greetings,
Well, I tried to re-program my RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) system transmitter this afternoon coutesy of: Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - Sentry key programming. Yup, got out the lawn chair, sunglasses and a beverage.
When I got my GC. only one "fob" worked. Took the inoperative unit apart, cleaned the contacts, changed batteries and went at her. Followed the instuctions at above link and DID get a response ONCE but I think the "fob" has failed.
I know this is small potatoes compared to most of you listees BUT that's what I did today.
Any suggestions for a name for her? I'm sort of leaning towards "Muriel".
Peter.

CrazyWJ242 03-18-2009 06:44 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Muriel is good...
my jeep floats between Angie and Emma... my friend named her kid Emma so its kinda floated over to Angie...

i've been looking adding an additional key (since i have my spare hidden near the gas cap, and a transponder in my glovebox) and my key fob is missing the unlock button, so i think its time to get on ebay and pick up a couple... programing its gotta be fun

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

By the way what did you use to clean the contacts with? For small stuff like that I've found the best thing is actually one of the white drafting erasers. Forget who told me about them but it works like a charm on contact points like these.

Dan

CrazyWJ242 03-18-2009 10:32 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

any copper connections (especially corroded) i use ketchup.
the combination of the vinegar and salt as an abrasive is great for getting the grime off... i cleaned a set of cymbals with a bottle of Heinz lol

white drafting erasers work great aswell... use to use them for PCI slots in the computer and crap lol

Savasa 03-19-2009 11:54 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Hiya 04,
I usually just use alcohol on a cotton swab (Q-Tips, for example) to rub both the printed circuit contacts and the "carbon?" pad that actually MAKES the circuit when pressed onto the printed circuit board. I have in the past used contact cleaner (availble at an electronics store) with a bit of agitation by a cotton swab.
I agree that an eraser WILL do the job but my contacts did not appear to be oxidised so I thought I'd try the gentle approach first and I did get a bit of dirt off. I may go in with a more aggressive approach (eraser) tonight.
When I repaired my heater speed switch on my '94 Cherokee I used #600 emery paper. I had to dissasemble the whole switch because it jammed up (one of the contacts had bent-I straightened it up and reassembled the switch after cleaning the contacts as above). I also use #600 when cleaning up motor armatures BUT emery is conductive so you have to clean the piece off well before assembly.
Peter.

04WJGuy 03-22-2009 12:44 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Most of the time if I have to clean things like the contacts on the key fob it's because I've forgotten to take my keys out of my pockets and the gasses that can be present at work (H2S, SO2) put a black film on metals that alcohol won't take off. It would be much easier if it would.

So i was walking out to the jeep to head to work... and she's leaning over pretty good... flat tire...

and i left my jack in the states...

sooo i am using that crap one that comes with the jeep... and you guessed it... broke it...

luckly i didn't have the tire all the way off...
now im going to attempt using a tiny jack from a pontiac grand am, to get my spare on to see whats up with my other tire... UGH

i see blocks of wood in my near future...

horror stories anyone?

Yeah they rub. not pretty good. they do rub. 2"BB for now will be fine. I have read most GC's measure 18" from axle to fender. I am 18.5" in the rear and 18.75 in front. I couldnt believe it. I dont have UC springs or other mods. I thought I would rub on the control arms but there is lots of room yet. I am trimming fenders soon to make more room as well. only rub on the front of the front wheel well and the rear of the rear wheel wells. likely doing a long arm 6" lift then 33"35" tires. 32's go to the wife after. Not the way I wanted to do it but that is the way it is for now. old tires cracked up were leaking and then one left me flat after work. IT WAS TIME. not everything goes to plan. BB in mail. :smilie_auslachen:

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

WJ's are funny that way, when I had my 02 a buddy of mine liked it so much he went and got one. Both were base Laredo's, everything was the same including the suspension but mine sat 1.5" higher than his. No UC springs both were standard springs. But I've heard from lot's of people that say the same thing, 1 person put's on a certain size of tire and no rubbing and the next guy is tearing out the wheel well liner. Go figure...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

haha... like any good jeeper, i mcguivered away to get it off and back on haha...

the pontiac jack was too small to even lift the axle securely... (it had that awkward notch instead of any sort of a grove or flat surface...

So i dissaembled my jack, bent away the part that broke and set it directly on the corkscrew bit going thru the middle... what a pain to jack up... but it got the job done... now i've got to sort out a new jack that will perform well on and off road muhahaha...

but i took her down to the carwash and gave her some TLC from the abuse its had driving to Ontario, then out to NB... its already grabbing some attention from some of my roomies female friends... i took them all out for a little spin... one of them wants one... and wants exhaust on it cause it sounds soo much better HAHA...

roomies co-worker likes the GC more than her boyfriends Wrangler HAHA
and he's got a hell of a wrangler too

Good to hear you managed to get it all worked out Crazy, I like taking people out in the Jeep if they've never done any offroading before.
Hey ssnipes, I haven't done it but I know that some guy's ditch the WJ washer bottle and put in one from a ZJ, more of a rectangular one. There a little smaller than the WJ but it seems to work for them.
