oh yea electrical ghosts are always fun, luckily that's one of my specialties... id give ya a hand if i was around

I'm trying to sell my spare bored out 4.0L throttle body to my buddy with a 04 TJ 4 banger... oh it wont work, i showed him posts on the net how most people are loving it since it smooths out the RPM range and helps on hills (not like there's any around here) but would aid his gas mileage a bit... but he's afraid to bolt anything to his engine lol... sigh might have to sell it off on the Ebay

other than that I'm cleaning out the carpet from the last river run where someone had broken full bottle of beer (in the case) and it seeped into my carpet... FUN

Stormy weather on the weekend, so I figured it's about time to get around to a couple of things I needed to do.

First I had to drop the fuel tank because every time I filled it up fuel would piss out on to the ground...And gas is getting to be a little pricey to be just pouring on the ground every time I fill 'er up. Easy fix though, the fuel pump gasket was the trouble maker.

Then I decided to make space a little more readily available when I go camping, so I made the back seats removable instead of just flipping forward. Pretty simple. Took maybe 20 minutes...And cuz I was bored, I took a couple of pics.

All you need is a 10mm wrench or socket, grinder, punch and a hammer, and four pins (Princess Auto P/N: 8002035) And here they are:
Attachment 4886Attachment 4887Attachment 4888

Remove these two bolts from each bracket:
Attachment 4889

Grind this end of the pin off:
Attachment 4890

Punch old pin out:

Re-Install bracket with two bolts:
Attachment 4892

Install new quick release pin:
Attachment 4893

Now my seats come out in seconds when I need more space...

Can you tell I had too much time on my hands this weekend? I was supposed to be out on the lake, but the lightning in the Okanagan had other ideas...Oh well...

Later.

its bad when on the other side of the country is getting the same crappy weather you are... sigh...

its a great mod isn't it Craig... i've pulled mine countless times since doing the mod the hardest part is figuring out where to put them, but since their padded, just throw them on top of whatever you've got in the back no biggy!

i found my old lightbar off my XJ and was thinking about putting it on, but instead im going to transplant the lights from it to a new one, this thing is just a bit too beat up...

The rain was needed though...Okanagan has some wildfires that could use all the help they can get...

Sorry, off topic, but...that's what kept me from the lake and inspired me to fix the Heep, and tweak the back seats...It will be handy to get them out of the way...the big question is why couldn't the designers or engineers at Jeep figure this out to begin with?

Later.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

The real question is why the Jeep whiz kids didn't continue with this. The XJ's and ZJ's had this all along even though most people didn't even realize it. But when they did the WJ's we have to do it ourselves.
I guess that means that WJ owners can fix anything and the rest just need a helping hand.

My parents don't live to far from Fintry (Emerald Bay) so I'm just waiting to see if the fire gets closer.

$100 USD High Pinion, Reverse Cut, Non Disconnect, Dana 30 that's never been off-road getting picked up Monday, 3.55 gears and ABS ready, I've found a bud who is willing to help reinforce this one as well, welding on the OD of the D30 with the same ID tube to add strength, and to weld the diff housing to the tubes...
i don't think i have 3.73's going to have to figure that out, but i don't see myself using 4x4 in the next few months(:alcoholic:) UGH... but I'm really wanting to put just a taste of lift on the WJ... sigh but i need new tires...

I've also found a NP242HD transfer case for cheap (as in you pull it its yours)
that's going to require new drive shafts, so it'll sit in the garage... might do a Slip Yoke Eliminator mod while I'm at it, cause that TC is going in after the lift... might as well do it right... we'll see how it all goes...

Well I don't have to worry about washing mine today, just having it get washed away from the flash floods.

have you heard about this cash for clunkers program...

Top 10 "Clunker" Trade In's

1. 1998 Ford Explorer

2. 1997 Ford Explorer

3. 1996 Ford Explorer

4. 1999 Ford Explorer

5. Jeep Grand Cherokee

6. Jeep Cherokee

7. 1995 Ford Explorer

8. 1994 Ford Explorer

9. 1997 Ford Windstar

10. 1999 Dodge Caravan

5&6...
all of these vehicles have to have been insured and registered for the last year, so their not junkers their just vehicles that need some love... THEY HAVE TO BE IN OPERATIONAL ORDER to receive a credit... what is STUPID is that their disabling the motors! by basically creating glass in the block with sodium silicate.

and to recieve a credit If the new vehicle has a combined fuel economy that is at least 4, but less than 10, miles per gallon higher than the traded-in vehicle to get $4500, if the vehicle gets more than 10mpg higher you get $3500

I mean part the damn things out, fix the ones that are not operating properly, all this could be done within america, give mechanics jobs repairing cars from those who wish to trade in their vehicle for the credit...

this country makes me :alcoholic:

Boggles the mind a bit doesn't it, so many different things they could actually be doing to stimulate jobs and the economy and instead they concentrate on getting people to spend more while the jobless rate continues into the toilet.

Today...Put in a new battery. Thought about getting an Optima or other gel spiral cell battery, but at 2.5 times the cost of a regular battery, I thought nah...Went to Costco instead.

04WJGuy 08-13-2009 06:14 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I wouldn't worry about using Optima's unless your continuously running the battery down (winching, big stereo) or need to lay the battery on it's side.
Last time I checked here Canadian Tire version of the Optima was only 35.00 more than a regular one of the same size.
Mind you Costco is still a hell of a lot cheaper than either.

WJCraig 08-14-2009 08:10 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yup...I looked at crappy tire too, but for the price, I couldn't justify it. I don't have the pounding stereo that I did when I had a slammed S-10, and I don't have a winch to strain the battery either, so, Costco wins!

Nice little bend in there...

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6742731_n.jpg
the support looks much worse in person, the AC condenser is also dented abit, but that rad support is jacked... the bottom of the bumper is gone aswell...

what all is left, tranny crack still has to get repaired... and i need a new Air Intake Temperature Sensor, an Oil Change, and new tires... new tires bad... their bald and will never pass inspection...

I've got to get ready to head back to canada... might be out in BC, Fort St.John... i've got to get my security license and hopefully they hire me... but regardless im heading back home ASAP

Hope the install goes smoothly. Any damage to the unibody at all?
Fort St. John, now theres some lovely memories...ughh!
Good luck on the job hunt, things are still slow in McMurray.

I've been trying to find measurements that i can use to verify that everything is straight, and where it needs to be...

theres no visual giveaways though, no wrinkled or chipped paint... nothing appears bent.

how big is the file youd be sending, is it a whole cd, cause i know of some free file storage sites, up to a gig i think... so i dont know your call... i could give ya my address i should be here for another month atleast :alcoholic: lol, it MIGHT get to me before my move back

in other news i've got the ring and pinion out of my bent dana 30

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6992352_n.jpg

the high pinion was actually in really bad shape (inside the diff), so im still trying to track one down, but might buy it from him for $75 and have to re-gear it.

I've tried to e-mail parts of it before and it doesn't seem to allow it. To bad about the R and P, doesn't seem like your having a lot of luck since you got down there. Hopefully you can find a set of gears for it that won't cost you an arm/ leg.

nice little crack in my transmission, and the bits of JB weld trying to hold it on...

breaking it all off, really roughing it up, and cleaning up with some acidic stuff, then re applying, hopefully i can get it to grab onto the housing and not leak anymore...

all this in 36C weather with 60% humidity...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Wow that's quite the crack in there. About the only sure way of fixing that besides putting in a new tranny is to get ahold of a high frequency welder, groove it from the outside and weld it up.

Tried loading the files, let me know if it worked.

oh yea, when i go i go all out :lol_hitting:
my neighbour was a welder back in the military, im thinking i might pull the tranny, drag it over there and see what he can do for me...

and the files work, i appreciate it Dan :beerchug:

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yessir! you betcha...

today is project cleanup... i'm wiping down the whole thing... inside and out and under!

then taking care of anything i see while i still wait for the right axle to come along...

the BC job hunt is going very well, their definetly interested, i've sent off for my license, then its talking about the all mighty dollar... they had mentioned two areas their looking to hire, Ft. St. John and West Kootenay (Trail)... the question im wondering cause i have no idea of BC cost of living and geography... where the hell do i wanna be... i know trail is on the boarder of the states, and pretty much in the mountains... but what about Ft. St.John?

and what kinda rent am i gonna be looking at for me and my dog lol

04WJGuy 08-20-2009 08:58 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Trail is alright. Mountains, fishing, reasonably close to major centers.
Fort St. John, rather largish hills, 15 minute walk to realize you may have made a mistake, 4 hours to Prince George, If I remember correctly it's closer to go to Grande Prairie. Fishing isn't to bad.
Rent when I was out there was reasonable compared to living even close to Vancouver.

CrazyWJ242 08-26-2009 06:50 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i mean really... could it be any worse...

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...0_315376_n.jpg

ughh... i might go buy a XJ and just swap all that i need into my WJ... (HP Dana 30, 42RE, 242HD Transfer case)

04WJGuy 08-26-2009 07:54 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Holy Crap!! That is definately not good. Might be looking for a new transmission sooner than you wanted. Even with a high frequency it would be hard to get that back in and still get a decent seal.

Well I'm going to be looking for a 242 in the near future (before spring) so if you end up with another one maybe we can make a deal on it.

I'd love to get a HP 30 but can't justify putting it on the list right now, cause if I do that then it'll be the axle, all new gearing, a locker or two, and new u-joint axles.
Now I'll be back to that conversation with the gf about selling one of the kids again. Mind you after the back to school shopping the last couple weeks she may be more willing to listen this time.

CrazyWJ242 08-26-2009 09:52 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

yeah, its put a bandaid on it, or get it fixed right...
right now i can only afford a bandaid since i have to have an axle to drive the thing...

what i hate is that its low miles...theres really only 80k on that tranny... so IF it can be fixed and not leak for another 100k miles... yea thats just not going to happen... my neighbour is good, so we'll see what he can do...

what i hate is i could get a used cherokee probably dirt cheap, and have many components i could use for my WJ, and possibly have another rig... so i dont know... i've got to crunch some numbers and see whats going to be the most economical...

a body shop right around the corner from me has a ZJ that had a nasty fire in the interior... i want to ask the guys what their doing with it and if they'd let me swap the D30 if i put my bent one in... (assuming its going to the scrap yard) who cares when the weight of its still there....

CrazyWJ242 08-27-2009 04:11 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

well since im getting myself into a tranny swap, why not start something fun :-P

i've been reading of a 42RE to AX-15 swap someone has done in a ZJ, and its got me thinking... if it would be worth while/possible for the WJ... and what kinda computer headaches am i going to run into (im assuming the same as the ZJ, crank position sensor for M/T(but i have the coil packs) and Park/Neutral start switch attached to clutch master cylinder or a rocker, so i can retain cruise control and start my jeep in gear if need be)

i mean the band-aid is a case of beer, might last a few months, thats long enough to research more, and track down good bits for a swap... (and fabing up all the other fun bits, OHHH! id be able to put in a 241 transfercase, just have to change the input shaft. 4:1 oooh!)

and down here is the place to do it, cause i have access to like 50+ jeeps in just 3 of the local junkyards 10 minutes from my parents house...
I cant sleep and this is whats running thru my mind... it has me excited and wanting to get started... but i need to sleep, I need Money

and i was thinking of ripping out my A/C system tommorow, i've got time to do it... and i NEVER use it... (twice in the 2 years of owning my jeep) maybe modify it as an onboard air compressor, and put my little 3 gallon tank in my old spare tire area... it would be a fun mod i've got just about everything to do it too...

I NEED SERIOUS HELP...

04WJGuy 08-27-2009 10:21 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I read that write up to, ever since I bought the WJ I've been checking around to see if anyone has done this. I've swapped in manuals before but it was on vehicles that already had manual versions. If you or someone else wants to sacrifice your WJ for the cause and get it to work I'll be doing it soon after. Just don't want to be the trend setter right now. lol

CrazyWJ242 08-27-2009 02:18 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i dont consider myself a trendy kinda guy... infact probably the opposite... but i think im going to go for it...

i mean i can get a 4.0L 5 speed Crank Sensor (for the coil over plug ignition system) from the 04 TJ, then its modify my speedo, and wire up a switch so i can have cruise... its going to be tracking down the bits i need... which im about to go see a totaled ZJ right now, hopefully it has a lot of what i need and lowish miles :-P

Well it has an unbent Dana 30 front axle, not a HP... nobody was there so i couldn't talk to them about a potential swap...

04WJGuy 08-27-2009 07:44 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well if you manage to pull it off remember to take lots of pics and notes so the rest of us nutcases can follow in your footsteps.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

just got confirmation that the AX-15 and NV3550 have the same bell housing bolt pattern... so this might simplify things a bit... that's a 4.0L TJ 5 speed tranny... might be a bit easier to find... but a higher price tag... :(

still digging more dirt on this

04WJGuy 08-28-2009 10:07 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Would be interesting to get some measurements off the TJ and just see if the TC and trans x-member would be in the same location on the WJ.
If that's close to stock the hardest part would be hanging/ finding room for the clutch pedal and master cylinder. With my big feet I think I'd have to take a piece out of the wheelwell to make it fit.
If the PCM out of the TJ would work in the WJ that would definately help simplify things.

CrazyWJ242 08-28-2009 10:22 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

42RE is out!

yeah thats what im thinking, this is totally do-able... btw, you know that blocky carpet thing on the floor, left of the brake pedal, thats for show, it can be removed its just like you said making room for the clutch master cylinder...

and im only 5'6"ish and wear 12/13's so i know what its like having boats...

hopefully my neighbour isn't up to anything today and has time to take a look at this thing
