What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Today I changed all the fluids, both diff's, tranny, oil, transfer case, and flushed the rad.
Changed the spark plugs to.

was wondering when should I change tranny oil drive a lot (love my GC)

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Should do it every 30,000 miles or 48 000 kms. I do my axles/diff's at the same time because I run through a lot of water. Cheap insurance in case anythings leaked in past the bearings.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Washed it this morning and drying off in the shop right now, get's waxed tonight since the city is dumping about 10lbs of salt per square foot right now.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Installed new bearings and seals in the rear axle. Loosened, anti-siezed, and re-tourqued all the bolts that will need to be removed when my long arms get here.

Am I the only person that does anything to thier GC in this forum??

Ordered the F/R Addco sway bars, my homebrew rear swaybar just couldn't take the beating anymore.
Fort McMurray is such a rip off town, just short of 900.00 for both + shipping. Not a happy camper.
On top of that it's a custom order so will get them in about 3-4 weeks.
Took the Pioneer stereo system out of my Nissan and am going to put it in the WJ over the Christmas holidays, just have to make a sub box for the rear so I'm going to fiberglass one up that looks like the JL Audio box.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I put a new starter in on my 02 WJ 4.7L

it is possible to do with out removing heater pipes or upper control arm. tough but I did it. the trick is to unweight the suspension so the wheels are off the ground. once un bolted then just slide it out toward the radiator (front) and give it an 1/8th of a turn and then drop the one end of the starter down to clear the upper control arm mounting bracket.

04WJGuy 01-07-2009 01:32 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

The first time I did it on my buddy's 03 I ran into the same problem with the upper control arm.
Once you figure out that lifting the body up a couple inches it makes a world of difference and makes it a lot easier.
Same if you've never taken the front or rear covers off your diffs before. If you don't lift one side a couple inches there is 1 bolt on each diff that is almost impossible to get a wrench on. Even worse on WJ's at stock hieght.

I will be sure to do my 6" lift before the gear change then for sure! LOL

04WJGuy 01-07-2009 08:14 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I was so used to working on them with even a 2" lift that when my buddy bought his 03, I was laying under it cursing away wondering why I couldn't get at that one last bolt and then it hit me.
Told him he needed to lift it so it would be a real Jeep.

Dan, i think you are the only one that does anything serious to theirs. Either that or everyone else is too busy wrenching theirs to post what they are doing.

All I did today was fill it up with diesel fuel before driving it to work, count for anything? haha.

04WJGuy 01-10-2009 12:09 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

If getting fuel where you live is anything like it is here then yeah it does. :), all the stations here won't turn the pump on until you've gone inside and pre-paid for your fuel.
Yesterday I was at a full service station, at the till with cash in hand, and they still wouldn't fill it until I "ESTIMATED" how much I would need! Needless to say the manager did not like my response.

How do you like the diesel? What's the mileage like in it?

Well I didn't do anything on the GC today but I have a 98 TJ to try and resucitate starting tomorrow.
The thing hasn't been taken care of for a long time. I haven't even started into it and I'm already shaking my head just looking at it.

Well the Addco swaybars came in today, to bad they were for a 1994 GC. They only missed by a decade. Now I get to wait for another month for the proper one's to show up.
The TJ is almost back to life, 4-5 more hours and it should be breathing on it's own.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Good news and bad news day, new teraflex endlinks showed up today...unfortunately the 80lbs of rock sliders on a pallette they were straped to are MIA. I'm really starting to dislike DHL. Thier getting to be as bad as UPS.
The 98 TJ is alive and well and out the door, so at least one good thing today.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well I finally got ahold of DHL and they claim that they've been trying to deliver my rock sliders since Friday.
Didn't have much to say when I reminded them that I can see them from my office window (about 500 feet away) and nobody has been by. I can't go and pick them up since they are supposedly on the truck I just have to be patient.

HA!! Right.

Obviously they don't understand there's Jeep parts involved here.

Getting ready to paint the sliders and install on the weekend. Man I love KOR stuff, pure beef for offroading. The outside tube is 2" x 2" and they are about 1/2" short of going from wheel well to wheel well. Now I just need to find some big rocks to test them on.

The stereo install went fine, the sub box is taking some extra time due to kids, work, the ex. Have the frame made but am thinking of working a couple of cubbyholes and a small power inverter into it. Nothing like 110v for running the coffee pot on the trail first thing in the morning.

Christmas came again today, my F/R Addco swaybars and custom drag link and tie rod bar showed up.
Install day on Sunday and off for a wheel alignment on Monday morning.
The Addco's are solid steel so no more hollow tubing bent up and the tie rod and drag link are Sch.160 Chrome Moly. You get a workout just moving them around. I don't think I'm going to be bending any of these any time soon.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Now those are serious!

technically yesterday i got mud all over my upholstery... I had taken my dog Dee to the park, and didn't have anything to clean his paws off with... and of course he had to run around the inside while i walked over to the drivers side... leaving a trail detailing every step...

so tomorrow Im doing a full interior detail... its long past due, as i hadn't done it since i got back from the states... Dee in the jeep for 16 hours, its going to be a job just getting the dog hair out...

04WJGuy 02-28-2009 10:19 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Ah yes wingman prints throughout the interior always fun.
Take mine with me all the time (Sheperd) He decided to jump out the window to chase a rabbit once so I stopped and when he came back he had managed to get sprayed by a skunk. He was a real treat to travel with since we were in Montana and it was about a 17 hour drive home.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Dee is a rottweiler mutt, great personality but has to be tethered to the vehicle at all times LOL...
that curious Rotti in him that has to know what EVERYTHING is, it just gets old lol but he's still a pup (13 Months) and just shy of 90lbs... its best to keep tabs on him... i trust him completely, but you just never know with some other dogs... if they started something, dee would most likely end it...

Today is definetly looking like a go out and cruise with the wingman though...

but is he ever a chick magnet lol... just cant bring the good ones home lol

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well, I had a great start to the day. Got to the shop to finish prepping the WJ for surgery and found out the sewer line for our building was frozen and had backed up into the shop overnight. 480.00 for a suck truck to come clean it up!! At least the guy was nice enough not to charge me as an emergency call or else it would have been twice as much. So much for working on the Jeep for today, have to go back and wash everything down with bleach this afternoon.

Oh thats rough...

I've got half a mind to pack up the jeep and head to NB...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

how's that bored out throttle body working for you?, I've heard quite a few guy's saying it really helps on the highway with the 4.0L/ 42RE as it doesn't seem to downshift as much on the small hills when your using the cruise.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

it FEELS like i've lost a bit of torque on the low end, but more than makes up for it on its way to the top end... i wish i had a higher redline cause its making obscene amount of power, i wish it could keep going!

only issue i have (and it's entirely my fault) when i put in the countersink into the throttle plate, i ended up drilling in just a hair too far, and well when i tighten the screws, it allows it to rotate just the smallest amount... what does this do, makes it a little sticky at idle, kinda have to give it a tap...

as far as wheeling goes, i cant handle it in auto (D) and 4 low, the power is just at the wrong spot and it feels like i've got to go in abit hot and heavy while in drive for that bit of extra power... but if i put it in 1 or 2 gears, and i can keep the RPM up in that sweet power range... she's money!

i usually went wheeling on hard packed fire roads, and the few ventures off the trails along the way...

its kinda if you had a spare throttle body to bore and put a new plate in... you could see what i mean... as far as it goes being worth it... i wouldn't pay $300 or more for one... id get a scrap yard throttle body, a buddy with a milling machine, and a brass plate the size of the bore... (you'll have to modify the throttle shaft aswell as it wont fit the bored out plate, but its simple enough to do, i did mine with a friggin hacksaw!)

its worth looking into...
im wondering if a spacer would do anything for me at all...

Youtube Me Topping Her Out
thats a video just after i installed it, Crappy cellphone video... with the windows down...
but you'll kinda notice in second where the rpm's pick up and go, if this thing was geared better it would be mean lol hits gov in 3rd gear

Well work is definately getting in the way of me getting everything prepped for my end of winter run to Crowsnest, I think some people are actually expecting me to do something besides wrench on the Jeep during the day. Think I'll give the office manager an ear full tomorrow.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Just gave the jeep a good once over, getting ready for a trip back east...
i might have to give the co-pilot up to a shelter, it seems nobody is willing to help a guy with a dog out... its just making it tough to travel around and find work when i have to find a place that can accommodate him as well... and it sucks cause i need just a few weeks to sort out enough money to get wherever i'm going and to rent a house... i can afford the dog once i'm working... its just in the meantime... UGH...

this also considering i might join the RCMP :lol_hitting: someone needs to beat me with a bigger LOL stick...

04WJGuy 03-08-2009 02:00 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Try calling the local radio station and see if they will announce it on the air, hate to see a good dog go to the shelter since you never know what will happen to it afterwards.
Nothing wrong with doing service, I did my time in the Navy and I've got 2 cousins in the Army, and a couple in the RCMP.

I need to quit procrastinating and get the Jeep's to-do list finished, I think the Fort McMurray winter blah's have set in. Only have 1 1/2 weeks left to get this one done and delivered to the girlfriend since she's getting tired of driving mine. If it's ready we have a group trip planned to Silverstar in Idaho, then to Billings, and then finally back to Crowsnest.
Guess I better get motivated and start moving.

Well got off my butt today and got the new sway bars in and the new drag link and track bar, spent almost 4 hours hammering the old TRE's out, god bless DC for coming up with tapered TRE's.
BAS*****!!!
Installed the new upper and lower front shock mounts and the rear A-arm spacer.
All that's left to put on are the extended end links, quick disconnects, springs, wheels spacers, brakes, shocks, mount the compressor, wire in the new power inverter, and take it for an alignment.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

i tell ya man these things are the ultimate project vehicles..

I'm thinking of installing my custom light bar up on the roof rack, only thing im conserned about is waterproofing the penetration for the power... i've got a few watertight fittings i use for work, their all plastic so im hesitant to use them... gotta find something better...

and i have a couple of under the hood lights, thats definetly getting done this weekend...
and probably my switch panel thats going where the ashtray i guess is supposed to be...
i was going to keep it aluminum, but im going to paint it the same colour as my jeep with my touchup paint...

but im thinking of when i go to big AT/MT tires what am i going to do with the spare tire space under the cover... i was thinking a neat place for a subwoofer, maybe additional fuel cell, (though thats significantly more work)... got any ideas dan?
