Been reading the stats on air filters and am going to get a Airraid filter, the K&N actually has the worst rating for filtering out dirt. Even the stock paper filter from the dealership has a better filter rating.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

haha... yeah its bad when you can look thru the element and see clear thru, though very small holes... its certainly not a good FILTER... thats why i usually avoid following someone down dusty trails and head in first... or well the first person always has the most fun

im currently looking for employment out in Alberta... wish me luck :alcoholic:

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...rail-steep.jpg

kinda got stuck on a downed tree (on my way back down, got over it the first time) i thought i would have drove back over no problems... but balding tires i just slid up it and then when i went to back up and try again, i just set it down on the axle... CRAP!

this is why i say carry an axe in your jeep!

cut it down the rest of the way, used that other log to pry it straight, drove over it, and got it out of the way...

Looks like a nice day for wheeling. A little fresh air, some exersize, a couple pics to laugh about over a cold one. :beerchug:

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yea it actually pretty lousy that day... was misting the entire time, but the trail is so overgrown (it had been 10 years since i had gone up! and it looked like i was the last!) super steep, cliff to the side, rocky, a few "steps" to tackle, a swift river to forge, and nowhere to turn around. good times that day... today im out in PEI checking out a new job. so far looks good but i need a spot to go wheelin

04WJGuy 06-19-2009 11:25 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Would such a place exist in PEI? I suppose you could rent the Jeep as a plow then you could go do donuts in the fields. Good luck with the job hunt.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well my WJ is either trying to drive me crazy or bankrupt me.
In the last 1 1/2 months both rears axle shafts and bearings have been replaced, new rotors/ pads all the way around. Went out wheelin on the weekend and both rear wheels are squealing again just like before everything was fixed.
Pulled everything apart last night and it all seems good. No gouging, nicks, or visible scrapes.
While all 4 tires where off the ground I put it in drive and not a bloody sound...
So I think this afternoon I'm going to start checking for a cracked axle tube.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Just Empty Every Pocket man.

tommorow mines heading into the garage to get the tranny pulled, finally going to get around to sealing up that nasty crack i had put into it...

theres definetly few places to wheel on PEI, its a boggers dream over there though and that red soil would make them happy... but i rather crawl and head up cliffs so its not the place for me...

and unforuntately that job isnt panning out yet... they havn't got back to me yet anyway...

somethings gotta work out my way.... ive got my jeep paid up to the end of next month... i've got to find something before then or their going to be coming for it!

04WJGuy 06-23-2009 06:36 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well that just bites, hopefully something works out for you.
I don't like wheeling in heavy mud. To easy to break something, I like the trails and some rock climbing where you can see exactly what your getting into.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

If the Jeep's going to act typically, if I want the rear end to stop squeaking I'll have to change the leaky valve cover gasket. Throw money at an unrelated problem and the other will self correct.

CrazyWJ242 06-25-2009 03:40 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

haha isn't it true though... seems like when you fix something else she self corrects the other problem just magically dissappears...

but i definetly agree with ya i rather hit up a good long trail and actually go somewhere rather sit there and play in the puddle back and forth... i mean i'll go thru if its getting me somewhere... but the way i see it the jeeps suspension is one of the best, its meant to flex! so you should be crawling over stuff putting it to work... all that hard work and money... well mostly money... should be put to use... why cover it with mud

its fun when you get out and at a look and one tire is tucked up in the fender, the other tire is extended down on the ground...

Hey guys,

I have a 02 wjHO and i was woundering if anyone knew what I could gain by swapping my stock injectors for those in a 01-02 mustang cobra. The flow rate is a little higher on the stang injectors and the ev connectors are the same. Has anyone tried swapping injectors before?

04WJGuy 06-29-2009 07:56 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Unless your going to be upgrading a bunch of other thing's that require the extra fuel, including getting the PCM flashed there is no point in going with bigger injectors with the 4.7 the PCM will maintain the 14.7: 1 air/ fuel ratio and it will run just like it does now.
Using the Superchips module doesn't "flash" the PCM. It just overwrites certain lines of operating code. A flashed PCM is a completely different animal.

Well I took the beast out for a good run today and it only took 3 hours to get all the crud off it.
Tomorrow is change all the fluids day again and possibly the valve cover gasket and the rubber grommets up top. Other than that I have a feeling it's going to be a very slow day. Bought some Jeep bling yesterday too, have to keep baby happy. :)
Got a 48" Hi-Lift Extreme on sale for 75.00 at Princess Auto in Edmonton. Looks so nice I don't want to get it dirty.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

ooooh! i was looking at getting one for $90 at cdn tire...

i took mine out for a fun ride, only made it half way up the trail and with my lousy street tires, and it raining all night left me backing out, getting her stuck off the trail and having to get out and push her around to get unstuck, but turned around and made my way back out haha...

made 4 attempts to climb the hill after that but ended up bringing her back home...
good times

today is going in the garage to pop out a dent in my back bumper... and take a look at mr.transmission and see if i can get that leak to quit...

im all down for fun in the mud :) but it sound to me like ur jeeps are hurtin :( dont u think? i mean no offence to any of youall. but the more you "put it to work" the more garage days ur gonna have. but if u do ur own wrench work or have doe to blow have fun and POST PICS!!! also‚ id like some help in regards to muffler and catless catback options, only 2 things to consider; 1 i dont wanna pay more than $200 and 2 i dont want more sound i dont wanna sound like a 60s muscle car. i have a mig and can get pipe just cant bend it. im not scared of emissions im in a province without those tests and i dont really think my 4.7 is gonna melt the glaciers. i will need inlet and outlet pipe sizes and pipe width. thanx

i've been through a similar thing with my rear end squeaking before twice after trailing, and it drove me nutz for like 2 weeks when i was about to change the bearings i thought to do the half a$$3d thing and rebent my rear brake springs and poof no more squeak. im not saying thats ur problem but its so easy to try, i didnt even need to remove the wheel.

04WJGuy 07-03-2009 02:04 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Unfortunately mine is/ was a wheel bearing, the garage I had put it in buggered it and it's now replaced. Just something else that I was to busy to do so I let someone else do it. Not happening anymore.

For the 4.7 you should go for a 3" pipe if you want it to flow well. If your going to enlarge the pipe there really isn't an option for that 60's muscle car sound it's going to happen. One other solution but much more work is to run a dual exhaust on the stock size and you won't have the noise. It will ease the back pressure but not as much as running a larger pipe would.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

see i look at my jeep a different way you do (i was thinking of making mine a street jeep, and swaping a 4.0 for a 6.1L from a wrecked superbee, and having a SRT WJ haha) but too huge of a project way too much to swap and too much money to make a fast WJ...

granted its all in good fun, so is trail riding

i dont so much as take my jeep out to big mud puddles and pass thru 20 times like some people do... its merely to see if i can get farther down the trail, as my area provides pleanty of it (i love living on North Shore NB) but as far as it goes it gets to a point where you cant go further, you gotta bring her home, and swap something out so you can make it just that much further... this takes everything time, money, facility and tools lol... if ya gottem why not!

and thats probably why im getting stuck on this hill lol... baby needs new shoes!!! lol

and as for the bumper, well i want steel ones so this sorta thing doesnt happen again

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

If you were to buy my Jeep you would be getting one of the best maintained vehicles around, I'm **** about maintanence so I don't wait for something to break I'll just go replace it before it does. a few bucks here and a few there ------s it over the year instead of taking it somewhere and they tell you that it's going to cost 5000.00 to fix. Anyway's wheelin' and wrenchin' is a hobby so my Jeep keeps me happy.

well i got the back bumper off, couldnt find my 10mm deep sockets so had to vice grip it... UGH

but i finally get it off and take a look at the gas tank and to my amazement... im missing a support bracket for my gas tank

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...rt-missing.jpg
my dog started walking into the pic, thats what the black and brown blur is
ughh.... if its not one thing its another...

If i were to pick up a heavy duty skid plate would it come with a new one?

04WJGuy 07-04-2009 07:41 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

When I installed my trailer hitch the tank only had the one support (same spot) even though you can see where the other one bolts up. Check out the junk yard and see if you can find one for the other side. If you manage to find a good skidplate let me know I'm looking to get rid of the factory one.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well time to do all the fluids again, doesn't seem that long ago that I was lying underneath the Jeep doing this. This commuting between Fort McMurray and Crowsnest is sure putting the miles on fast. Might have to start thinking about getting something with better mileage and retiring the Jeep to in town and weekend warrior status.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Nothing wrong with that...

So i made a trek back to the states, and in Maine i hit a concrete statue that fell off a truck in front of me, i had 2 guys pacing me on my left and right and had nowhere to go but suck it up...

broke part of the front bumper, bent the radiator support just a tiny bit, and popped up over the thing with the front passenger side tire...

front passenger side of the axle is leaking at the CV joint (differential is still topped up doesn't appear to be losing any fluid) appears to be debris in the fluid as its practically silver... and both tires are so off camber... so thats what im up to in this 39C Heat

04WJGuy 07-14-2009 02:51 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well that's gonna put a glitch in the day, hopefully your ok. Anyway to get the owner of said statue to pay the damages?
Luckily KOR now sells a HD lower rad support with tow points for the WJ's. :)

CrazyWJ242 07-14-2009 03:45 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

the guy never noticed it fall off the truck, when i hit i pulled right over and the other guys kept on going... i stuck around for a few minutes assessing the damage and figuring out how bad it was... then i got in and kept going to the next rest stop...

im gonna take a few pics and post... its not that bad, aside from the axle and camber issue

04WJGuy 07-14-2009 06:57 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I love driving down there. Land of I didn''t see nothing!
Hopefully it won't be to expensive to fix.

CrazyWJ242 07-15-2009 02:06 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

weird my post didn't show up...

so somehow I've got a locker installed...

when i rotate my front driver tire, my passenger tire rotates the same direction, inside the differential, the planet pinion does not rotate... if i hold the passenger tire i can still rotate though, the passenger side CV joint boot is not connected on the axle side and is just sending grease and gear oil everywhere...lots of grinding and popping coming from somewhere, but no apparent damage to anything visible in the differential

my hub assembly is good to go, no damage what so ever so it must be something within the axle... Im just reluctant to take off the steering knuckle since i don't have the funds yet to take it in for a proper alignment, or what do ya thing should i just go ahead and rip it apart to get to my problem which is most likely the whole axle assembly

04WJGuy 07-15-2009 09:40 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Sounds like your CV is had the biscuit, close it up as best you can and try not to hammer on it to much until you can get it repaired. The locker is a stumper. The only way your going to see what's happened is to pop the cover off, maybe one of the spider gears got impacted.
You can clean the axle tube with a couple big washers, a big socket and a piece of reddy rod and scrap it out, only problem is that wwhen you do it you'll have to remove the spiders from that side.

I added an iPod intergration kit to the RB1 so I don't have to use that crappy FM transmitters anymore.

Now I get good sound quality and have more then enough tunes for the trail!

Not quite as good as the mopar kit, but at less then a third of the price, I can live with that...

Attachment 4894

Attachment 4895

Attachment 4896

Attachment 4897

Attachment 4898

The main difference between this kit and the Mopar one is that
-It costs less
- the song title/artist does not display on the RB1 screen,
-but you can control the iPod through either the steering wheel controls, the radio controls, or the iPod itself...

Later.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

im wondering, can i remove my inner axles and still ride it around, im thinking yes... since the bearings are still good on the spindle...

now question, can i get my inner axle out without removal of the spindle? (Answer, NO, though ABS will not work without the outer part of the CV joints, theres nothing holding in the outer bearing)

CrazyWJ242 07-17-2009 09:16 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Ohh boy... well i wasn't looking for a bent axletube thats for sure... but thats whats going on... so much for thinking its just off camber, well yea it is... because the tube is bent up... no marks on it what so ever... so i wasn't suspecting it to be bent

time to find a new dana 30 housing... :alcoholic:
luckly im in the states and theres quite a few WJ's in the scrap yard

time to get my gas tank support along with many other things...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

This is what happens when you run over things on the highway. :)
That really bites, hopefully you'll be able to find another one down there.
Since your looking, do an upgrade and get a high pinion Dana 30 out of a XJ/ ZJ. It'll take more torque than the reverse cut low pinion models we have in the WJ's.

*WJ LP30's have standard rotation, HP30 is reverse rotation which is stronger. Gotta have more coffee before I start typing.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Nice mod Craig, those transmitters can be a pain at times. I found a set of 100w 9004's for the factory driving lights on the weekend. Do they ever light up the road!.. I mean do they ever light up the trails! :)

CrazyWJ242 07-21-2009 08:05 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

thats exactly what im looking for dan...
i was out in the yards and found a few XJ's with them... the yard has approx 30 Jeeps in the yard... only 2 wranglers

04WJGuy 07-22-2009 09:18 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well I sure hope that you manage to find something soon while your down there.
Other than finally getting around to deciding if I'm keeping the 35 and beefing it up or going to go with the 44a the HP 30 will be the last major mod for the Jeep. Everything else that needs to be done are just small upgrades to be more self sufficient when out on the trail.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Going to be parking my WJ for awhile and concentrate on the g/f's 98 ZJ. Interior/ Exterior are mint but it's starting to have all the usual ZJ electrical problems which ought to be fun considering I hate trouble shooting electronics.
The oldest is looking at a 98 TJ and the daughter wants to go look for her own ZJ. The place is going to start looking like a used Jeep dealership soon.
I'm going to have to quit my job just to keep them all running.
