Just caught it dan... gonna put it up in a bit dan

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...oach-angle.jpg
gives abit more approach angle... going to shoot it with a flash.

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...oach-angle.jpg

https://www.jeepscanada.com/forum/me...hed-bumper.jpg

actually left a screwdriver under the hood on the passanger side, kinda throwing it off... MY BAD!!

I still have an unfinished edge, going to go over it with some sand paper and take off all the sharp edges

as far as it goes, there 2 tabs that hang a hair lower than the bumper, its not really noticeable, I will eventually cut these since one of them needs to be repaired anyways (crappy bondo work from the body shop)

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Was thinking of doing this before and when I noticed you'd done it, needed to take a closer look.
Going to have to install some kind of rock guard for the lower rad section...or in your case a statue guard. :)
Looks good though, will have to keep it in mind. Would be nice if you could relocate the fogs into the bumper though.

CrazyWJ242 11-28-2009 11:59 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I was thinking about building a guard for the lower rad... just a piece of flat sheetmetal, some slots cut into it, and then bend it to mount to the bumper and bolt to the lower rad bolt holes..

I really would like to talk to the KOR guys and see what it would take to get the lower rad support fabricated, and get tow points aswell

well their selling Our Old House for $129k (look at the Other photos, appears to be a willys jeep on the TV)

the terrible thing, id have to have that saved up in a retirement account in order to afford it... since theres nowhere to work to afford the place... man

Very nice looking, you couldn't even get a 30 year old mobile home in McMurray for 130,000.00
But that Jeep looked more like you were caught watchin' Dukes of Hazzard waiting for Daisy and her Jeep. :)

Sent an e-mail yesterday to see if they have a date yet for when the rad support is supposed to be available. They seem to have some new front people so it's harder to get to Bryant now. Might have to park myself on the phone for awhile on Monday if it's slow.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

well i've got to get a replacement fog, I had to crawl on a decent sized rock (up to the hood) to get onto the trail... and i broke the glass on the fog, and a few days later i had to cross a river and yea i think it filled in and shorted it out...

That would be a bit of an oops, When I was looking at it before I was thinking it would be nice to be able to mount the fogs in the bumper, under the grill. To bad you'd have to chop up so much stuff to do it. After looking for about 5 seconds I just went Nope! and put it back together. :)

yea see thats what i was thinking... my fogs were aftermarket anyways, i had thought of installing them in the bumber there... cutting out the foam and inserting them in... i mean it would be close to fitting... but i assume just bolt them ON the bumper...

Would be nice if there was enough room back there to integrate them in behind, but hey...that's why I have 4 on the roof.

Went out today and got into some "Hairy" trails...not that pics ever look anywhere near as nasty...

Anyway, the rock sliders paid for themselves a couple more times today. No Carnage, good day! (Just a little touch up paint on the armor required!

Pics eventually...

Later.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

So I've decided to get flowmaster 44 muffler with 3 inch piping. Talk to an installer in town here and he says he can only go as big as 2 3/4 inch, says that's all he can bend? Does that sound right?

CrazyWJ242 11-29-2009 05:26 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

it does, you've got to have special inserts to prevent the pipe from wrinkling, and if he only has it to 2 3/4" id say go with it... i keep forgetting your a V8 lol... i was going to say 2.5" is plenty... but that 5.2L i believe 3" is ideal, assuming you've got atleast an Air Intake System.

ika667 11-29-2009 05:31 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yeah, I'm doing it in stages. Getting the muffler done this week, next pay check getting the cold air intake, and then headers, and so forth. I hope to be able to squeeze a high flow cat as well this week. So it is possible to get 3 inches, should I seek someone else or settle for 2 3/4?

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Phone around and go with the 3" if your going to do it. You may (probably) have to get it in Calgary, Canmore is quaint just not a shopping mecca.

ika667 11-29-2009 10:38 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yeah, I better get the 3" or I'll probably regret it. Thanks guys. Why do you guys think he won't go bigger than 2 3/4? Why does the pipe wrinkle? Will they charge more for the inserts?

CrazyWJ242 11-29-2009 11:33 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

its actually a piece he installs into his bender, not on your exhaust, he uses a hydraulic press with the inside bend and the outer piece just slides around and curves the pipe to the angle necessary...
these pieces prevent the tube from kinking up... just might have an old kit or doesn't work on with larger exhausts often...

Id go with the 3" as its the most common exhaust size for V8's, i dont know if the 2.75" would hurt the flow or not...right now the biggest block in the jeep is probably the flanges bend... if their at all like my buddy's 5.2 new manifolds/headers and flanges would be where id start lol... (but i know his has been beat up abit)

04WJGuy 11-30-2009 11:28 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

If your looking at a high flow your probably going to have a hard time finding one in 2.75", and also headers in the future. The collectors would have to be custom mde to fit that size. So your choices would be go with the 2.5" which would be slightly restrictive or wait and get the 3" which will flow nicely.

A 2.5" exhaust in cross section is 4 15/16 square inches while a 3" is 7 1/16 square inches. A very large difference in the way it's going to breath.

Being in Canmore there probably isn't a lot of call for oversized exhuast systems so he doesn't need any inserts larger than 2.75"

ika667 11-30-2009 12:28 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Yeah that is a huge difference! Thanks man I'm going to wait for sure because it would defeat the whole purpose otherwise and be a waste of much needed money!

It may be worth noting that if it's a mandrel bent 2.75 that retains a constant I.D. will be just as good (if not better) than a 3" that is cheaply bent with kinks and reduced ID as in a factory exhaust system.

You can see the cheaper type of bend in this image:

Attachment 4473

Compared to a better mandrel bend here:

http://www.streetperformance.com/ART...9921380HKR.jpg

Also, if your guy doesn't have the proper equip to make a nice bend on 3" pipe, it is still possible using sand (Just Google "Sand Bending") and some heat. Basically you need to pack some sand into the pipe and then heat and bend. It's a little tricky to get it right though and a lot more work then using a proper bender. But If he's not already aware of that, it may be best he doesn't learn on your vehicle.

Anyway, wherever you go, ask to see some a sample of their bent pipe and see of it's more like the bends in the first pic or the second...particulairly look to see that the Inside Diameter remains the same throughout the bend as in the straight portions if you want best flow properties.

That said, your biggest restriction probably isn't your bends, but rather your catalytic converters (assuming you have them, I just kind of skimmed through the posts)

Later.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

That's about as good a visual as you can get on the differance between hydralicaly pressed and mandrel bends short of doing it yourself.
If anyone ever gets the oppritunity to do sand bending, do it so you'll understand why hardly anyone other than the masicistic people will do it twice.

Yup...sand bending is a whole lot more work, and I'd probably just spring for the mandrel bent sections (Which can also be purchased online or at some shops if you figure out how many of what angles you need) But there was a time when a lot of people were doing it that way, and it does get the job done (albeit with a lot more work)

Anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to find a shop that can do a good job at a decent price.

Good luck.

P.S. just to let you know...Flowmasters are one of the best sounding mufflers you can get...but they also rust out the quickest. So if you want one that's going to last a long time, look for something from another company. If you want killer sound and don't mind replacing it every few years, well, Flowmasters sound great!

Later.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Used to do a lot of sand bending when I worked in a fab shop in Calgary many years ago. Lots of 2"-6" for de-salination skids with bends anywhere from 10*-180*. Oh the memories! :)

birdman 12-03-2009 10:49 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

mandrel is the only proper way to go! I sell machines that do this stuff! From the time it takes to do a sandbend ( and hope you get it right) the cost to pay someone to properly do it right the1st time is well worth it!
Magnaflow is the way to go!!

WJCraig 12-03-2009 02:51 PM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

I've got a stainless Magnaflow on my WJ right now too, and I'm happy with it.

I used to be a Flowmaster guy (And still think they sound awesome on any V8) but I got tired of replacing rusted out mufflers...

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well it's definately a day for tinkering inside the shop. -30C wind chill today. Ended up getting stuck in McMurray for the weekend because of the province wide storm that hit everywhere but here for some reason. Oh well, have thing's to prep for, UPS did not deliver my palate on Friday morning as promised. I love paying huge amounts of money for overnight shipping that takes 12 days to get here. (If it arrives tomorrow)
If it's dead at the shop like I think it's going to be it'll be a replace all the fluids, grease the chassis and a tune up day.

Well my delivery has arrived!
In the spirit of the season I have decided to spend some moola on the mistress.
Will have to test fit and then cut out the section for the winch and fairlead then paint it, debating on opening up the holes in the bottom to 2 slots. What do you guy's think?

That is just sweet Craig! I'm definetly going to slot mine.
If I would have known you were set up for welding I would have driven out and helped you with yours and I wouldn't have gotten a fiberglass one.
If you have or know someone who has a Costco card keep your eyes on the Champion winches. They put the 10,000lb on for 400.00 every once in awhile.

I'm keeping an eye out for those...I've got a Costco card! But they have none in stock in any of the stores in BC or online at the moment...The red Commander in some of my trail pics is looking for the same one too.

EDIT: Got a buddy to weld it...My welding sucks in comparison! :lol_hitting:

I can let you know next time I stop on my way through. The Costco in east Edmonton usually has 1 or 2 on the shelf. If your interested I can pick it up and put it on the greyhound for you.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Im jealous i dont have a new front bumper and just hacked up a stock one... :alcoholic:

I've been knocking out a bunch of small projects on the WJ... On Board Air, New Fire Extinguisher mounts, gone thru the recovery gear and first aid kit and replaced/replenished all that fun stuff. I did a few Center Console switch additions (removed that stupid pocket in the front console, and put in a flat aluminum plate with 4 rockers.) and certainly not least, i've got myself a little cobra like craig installed... i figure if i end up needing all the extra nonsense in the CB later on i can keep this around for a spare...

after i get my inspection im going to go ahead and tint the front windows to match the rest... its something that only bothers me in the winter, since windows are down all summer... but i hate the 2 levels of tint... Jerry Can holder/strap up on the roof for a extra 10 gallons on the trail,

I'm exchanging free installation of a home security system for some garage time with a buddy, he tells me he should be able to find a NV3550 in the next few days for me... so we'll see if i can get this pesky 42RE out for good...

Not a problem Craig, Costco is right beside the gas station I stop at on the way home and the greyhound station is only a couple blocks away from the house so all you need to do is say the word.

Mike, if you want I can make you up a set of templates for the bumper and frame rails/ winch plate and ship them down to you. Then you'll just have to start tacking one together. No guess work.

CrazyWJ242 12-09-2009 03:05 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Dan seriously if you could do that... Id let your son take my spot at my parents house, they might not notice the difference (except id suddenly be taller) :lol_hitting:

or Tims or Wobble Pops when i make it back up to your neck of the woods.

You've got the Iceland Bumper right dan? would the template be the same as that? or did you have something else ready to go? cause a steel version of the iceland would be amazing. (i dont want fiberglass, people have a habit of pulling out infront of me)

I can notice its just a tiny bit taller now... its pretty nice i still will need some lift soon...

and im wondering what to do with that sorry excuse for a rear swaybar... should i upgrade it, or remove it entirely?
the thing is as thick as a pencil... i doubt its doing much of anything... $0.02?

Ahh crap... I've got a bad cell in my battery... time to break out the hydrometer and see whats up with this thing, see if i can bring this thing to life...

04WJGuy 12-12-2009 09:54 AM

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

Well the upgrade on the rear is definately worth it, if you can afford it do the front at the same time.
Huge difference in the way it handles on the highway.
Those pic's were just deppresing to look at. At least it wasn't written off and looked like the majority of damage was cosmetic.

I'd keep it if you drive on the street much. If they find it missing after an accident you might not be covered by insurance, and could be held liable for anyone else involved.

You could make some disco's for it fairly cheaply but the stock rear sway bar has never been an issue for me off road...
