Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I got the oextra o2s by standard. 2 days after the replacement for the defective sensor was installed it threw a cel again so I ordered an ngk one, going to install it today. I gotta order a bunch of suspension bushings because I foulf out that both the ones for the passenger front upper control arm are worn to hell, you can grab the control arm and move it back and forth about an inch.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Surprised your not getting death wobble with them being that worn, your not replacing them with poly bushings are you?

or got a link to a pic of the modified exhaust going over the axle, tube diameter is going to be 2.5" (since the stock shrinks down to 2.25" or smaller... You can get away with the tail pipe up to 4" but with long arms it's just cheaper to turn it down and out. |

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
The axle side uses M14x2 and the sill side uses M10x1.5, I'm pretty sure the OD of the bushing is the same but the bolt hole is different as you can see.
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Thx you just saved me a bunch of trouble lol. So ill have to order a new control arm and then a bushing for the axle side, shouldn't be too bad I've seen the arms with bushings for about 25 bucks each. Also I'm on my third o2 sensor, this time ngk and the same code came back again so I guess I'm going to have to look for a short in the harness :(

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Jared, which one are you replacing?
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I need the front upper on the pass side
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Sorry, I meant the o2 sensor. oops
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Oh lol. I'm replacing the drivers side precat o2.
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Oh lol, its the drivers side before the precat. (Sensor 1 bank 1)
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Wow im an idiot the code is for bank 2 sensor one and I have been replacing bank 1 sensor 1
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
That might do it :), I was wondering because sometimes it will seem like the downstream sensor is the problem and then it turns out to be the upstream. I've found with these thing's it's sometimes better just to replace them both and be done with it.

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Guess who's Check Engine Light is on now...
no idea what it could be either, she's driving fine as can be... might pull the battery and see if it triggers again... i did kill the ignition when i pulled into the driveway last night... i've done that a few times and never triggered the light... |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Is it showing any codes?
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I dont have a reader... im kinda wondering if NAPA has one to lend for a minute... cause i dont know anybody that has one up here either...
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Just do the key thingimabob (tech term)
Key in ignition turn to on (not start), off, on, off, on, read codes in odometer window. Something should show up. If it's something minor it will probably show up with a OBD II scanner, but if it's in the PCM/ TCM your going to need to find someone with a DRB III scanner. If you disconnect the battery it may come back and take up to 40 "regular" starts before the computer will erase it from memory. |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Not today but the weekend consisted of changing front wheel bearing, new rad, oil & filter, and today I decided to back into a tree!!!!!!!! ouch
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
anybody happen to know the cost for new tailgate for Grand Cherokee???
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Man that just sucks, but on the bright side you didn't run into anything and break your new rad. :)
It would probably be cheaper for you if you checked the local auto wreckers or see if someone in your area is parting one out. (paper/ auto trader) Any local Jeep clubs? |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
P 1281... Engine is Cold Too Long
Engine coolant temperature remains below normal operating temperatures during vehicle travel (Thermostat). 160 Thermostat, and no tune... |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Was going to ask you how you were getting away with running that cold of a stat since it would be leaning out your fuel. Curse DC and thier open loop system. Maybe try a 180* and see what happens.
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
when its cold out, if i don't let her warm up for a minute or so before driving it'll throw it...
as its off now... without me pulling the battery... :lol_hitting: gas mileage (or lack there of still) has been restored lol the 180 tstat is minimum performance increase, but does help with the gas mileage... the 160 stat is power you can really feel... when theres been air going thru that rad for at least a click or so... i do need to switch to larger injectors though to rich en it up |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I think that unless you start considering a PCM upgrade your going to find that just doing the stat and bigger injectors your going to start having problems with your valve train.
Even with the larger injectors your going to have to upgrade the PCM, the open loop system doesn't recognize any changes per say (stock) but constantly tries to maintain a 14.7-1 ratio. |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
i could always start playing with the resistance with a VR and manually tune the thing lol
god what a nightmare that would be... i think the biggest problem is finding the right oil to protect the valvetrain... im thinking with the lower block temperature (essentially more critical areas are cooler atleast) the oil is not hitting its optimum operating temperature in these crital areas... and i have to go with a lighter weight oil like 0W-30, so it operates better at the lower temperatures... (as theres 5W-30 in there now) but then again there has got to be bearing tolerances and things like that that may not like the thin stuff... which is why i havn't touched that stuff... without consulting a professional... as in an engineer lol :alcoholic: |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30 all flow almost the same, the first number is slipperyness the 30 is the wieght/ flow characteristics.
What your doing now is overheating your engine by running it lean with the colder temp, if you go with bigger injectors your PCM will still be trying to lean the fuel out, which will cause it to dump more fuel in and then try to lean it out which will dump more fuel in and then it will try and lean it out which will cause it to dump more fuel in and then it will try to ....:alcoholic: Open loop systems SUCK! That's why there aren't a lot of performance options out there for the WJ's unless you get the PCM flashed after installing all the extra mods. Build a stroker and be done with it. :) |

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
drools
when i take a look at my plugs (which i do frequently since i know it has to be close to running lean) the wear on the plugs shows as the regular brownish/grey and the electrode wear is really minimal... regardless its time to to start looking into PCM upgrades to get the most out of everything done... i've talked about getting a stroker, and at one time had the money to do so... but couldn't bite the bullet and drop it in... plus i still have to get the tranny fixed lol |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Tell me about it, I've been thinking about getting one for awhile but the cost of the stroker + PCM flash + tranny kit = sell one of the kids.
I tried to talk the gf into selling the youngest one to pay for the mods since he hasn't been around as long as the other 2 so we're not as attached to him. Needless to say she was not amused... |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
k well did you cover all the angles...
well just how old is he? older than the jeep... younger than the jeep... if older well, you want to stick with the newer of the two... younger than the jeep, tried tested and true... and have become sentimentally attached to and does your wife like the looks she gets when riding the kid around? how about the jeep... or when the kid is dirty... the jeep can stay dirty for days and it never hurt anybody... nobody calls child services on a dirty jeep! im tellin ya when i get hitched she's just got to understand our points of view... LOL :lol_hitting: |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
LMFAO!!
Fu**!! Thanks Mike, I just snorted coffee all over my keyboard! She's gonna kill me when she reads this one. |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
What did I do to MY WJ? Chased some A/C gremlins around...blower doesn't blow...but power straight to the blower motor makes it spin, so it's either a wiring issue, a resistor/diode, or switch problem...
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I hate doing anything that originates on the right side of the dash, something usually dies under there at -30 or when your nowhere near a warm spot or proper tools.
Hope you get it figured out. |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Hoping it's the harness as they've been known to fail, but I can't get the damn thing off of the blower motor controller. I've pushed, pulled, pried, wiggled, yanked, whacked, broken the clip and it won't come free at the connector...
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
I've had that happen before, the pins inside corroded together. Ended up cutting the connector off and splicing a new one in. Was not a fun job. Hope you get it fixed without to much hassle.
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
im entertaining the thought of removing the A/C system entirely... if i didn't use it when i was in the states... as if im going to use it in NB... im a windows down kinda guy...
the blower gremlin is in my jeep too, only wide open really blows... and even then its not much, just really loud and annoying... and i pretty much only use that for heat on cold mornings... i found a wonderful thing when i was giving the jeep a once over this morning... a nasty rock size hole in my airfilter... as its a K&N univeral cone filter that you can see thru the grill up front... im thinking following too close and got a rock kicked up into it... (as i know i've had a shower of rocks when a buddy got bogged down in a spot and i just ran up on him) |
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Well, the no A/C is not a huge deal, but not being able to defrost or defog a window so I can see kind of sucks...It tends to rain quite a bit here too, so probably best that I fix it sooner then later...and not be spending time on the computer posting on forums...;)

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
lol after a fun trip out to the lake im thinking of a splash guard for my cold air intake... lol

That bites, I never liked the way the grill was open so I went to Rona and bought some rain gutter shields. Expanded aluminium sheets 36"x 6". You get 5 in a pack for 10.00 and I cut them out to go behind the grill and just wired them on. Made one for the bottom rad support to.
|
Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today
Great minds think alike...
cause i just bought some after posting! and am painting it black... if you look at my grill in the first pic, you'll see that the last grill on the left is missing... got knocked in, so rather than JB weld it in or melt it in... im just going to replace it all |
