Jerry Bransford

Page 22-4 of my '97 TJ's Mopar factory service manual specifically
recommends cross-rotating and shows a diagram for cross-rotating tires.
When referring to Fig.6 on page 22-4 showing a cross-rotation pattern,
the Jeep factory service manual says "The suggested method of tire
rotation is (Fig. 6). Other rotation methods can be used, but they will
not provide all the tire longevity benefits."

At least the BFG, Goodyear, and Michelin's tire rotation patterns I use
are similar and all three of those brands recommend cross-rotation.

So I heard from Matt earlier in the thread.

Does DC have monetary interests in tire companies?

I don't believe AMC did, and they wrote my manuals.

Lon's also recommends front to back, wonder what he drives.

The best advise is to follow the owners manual and cross if it says to
until you have tread separation like happened on our Cherokee when the
previous owner obviously followed the tire makers recommendation and
left me stuck with the result. I found the problem before it killed my
wife at least.

---- Jerry, there have been 'tons' of complaints about the death wobble
and lots of times it is an out of round tire causing it. At least the
Jeep has the courtesy to shake you off the road before the tire
explodes.....

So I heard from Matt earlier in the thread.

Does DC have monetary interests in tire companies?

I don't believe AMC did, and they wrote my manuals.

Lon's also recommends front to back, wonder what he drives.

The best advise is to follow the owners manual and cross if it says to
until you have tread separation like happened on our Cherokee when the
previous owner obviously followed the tire makers recommendation and
left me stuck with the result. I found the problem before it killed my
wife at least.

---- Jerry, there have been 'tons' of complaints about the death wobble
and lots of times it is an out of round tire causing it. At least the
Jeep has the courtesy to shake you off the road before the tire
explodes.....

Might have something to do with today's tires being better engineered, etc.
then when your trucks were manufactured. Was it your Hercules tire that blew
6 months after you got your Cherokee? Maybe it was just a defective tire.

Might have something to do with today's tires being better engineered, etc.
then when your trucks were manufactured. Was it your Hercules tire that blew
6 months after you got your Cherokee? Maybe it was just a defective tire.

Might have something to do with today's tires being better engineered, etc.
then when your trucks were manufactured. Was it your Hercules tire that blew
6 months after you got your Cherokee? Maybe it was just a defective tire.

It 'could' have been a defective tire, but I was informed that the tires
had been freshly rotated so I figure a spade is a spade and the shop
used the tire makers way.

It happens 'way' too often for me to think they are all just defects. I
mean think of how many times you read here that the 'death wobble' was
caused by a 'defective' tire.....
