Re: Bearing issues
I was trying to save myself from 40B3DC12.27BD3AFF@sympatico.ca,
but <romainm@sympatico.ca> wouldn't let me go...
| I drove for quite a while like that in my CJ7. I was very
| careful about accelerating with the wheels turned hard, but
| other than that I run in 4x4 for weeks at a time in the
| winter. I don't expect damage....
|
| Just make sure you don't lose the fluid. I think Jerry B said
| a WD40 cap will fit right on and a hose clamp holds it....

Mike, how exactly would I lose the fluid? Rusty's posts aside, I am
not trying to be a d!ck, maybe I am smoking something. Or, by telling
me I should be losing fluid, you are really telling me I need a CJ.

Re: Bearing issues
well, I thing the etiquette is stronger for bottom posters to trim the
messages they are replying to.
nothing worse than scrolling down pages of old messages to see a one line
reply.
Top posters can get away without trimming but should keep doing it.
anyone that's interested in the thread can google it I say!

Re: Bearing issues
The slip yoke holds the t-case fluid in. When you remove your rear
shaft, there's nothing keeping the slip yoke in place, so it has to come
out too. You'll only lose a few drops when you pull the slip yoke out,
but once you start driving you'll lose enough to do major damage.
What you need to do is cap it off so you can drive it. I've used duct
tape and a soda can to get me home on several occasions.
You don't need a CJ to avoid this and many other shortcomings of the
slip yoke design:

shaft, there's nothing keeping the slip yoke in place, so it has to come

Re: Bearing issues
Some of us use news readers that let us see the entire thread at
once and read the previous comments in logical rather than
chronological order. So unless the news feed is hose up (fairly
normal unfortenately), there is no real need to leave ANY of the
previous text in place.
And some of us have been reading NG's so long that we remember
when going from 14.4 to 28.8 meant you did not have to be so
fussy on what you snipped off.
And your point is?
