I changed all the rotors and pads maybe 10,000k ago and after this summer's runs I'm almost on the verge of having to replace my front pads already! I don't drive like a formula 1 driver so I'm fairly disappointed in these to say the least.
Any suggestions on a good set of pads? These one's are so dusty my rims are turning black from the dust and I never had that problem with the last set.

Engine is back together. Bolted in. Biggest job = timing the beast. Got it done using the information I got from this site. Only 2 problems was when i had the engine out I pulled the block heater out. Figured what the hay....gone this far might as well make sure it is good for winter. BUT....I forgot to pick one up to put back in. The local parts shops did not have one for my 4.7. So will pick one up this week.
Also I need to build a press to install my crank pulley. It is hard to find a 9/16 fine threaded rod. Again will pick it up this week.
Down side is I had company stop in while doing the engine assembly. Not good. After the front was all installed and sitting back having a cold one and going over the service manual...I could not for the life of me remember torquing up the idler sprocket behind the front timing cover. Removed the AC the Alt and the timing cover and discovered the bolt was torqued.
Oh well better safe than sorry.

Thats what I did to my `99 GC today.

Isn't that always the case. Would never wonder if the bolt was out in the open right in front of you.

Well I could not believe my luck. Got a 9/16 bolt from a machine shop to fashion my press to install my pulley. When I got home tonight found out that the bolt they sent was a 1/2 inch one. Was not a happy camper.
Went to a buddies shop after supper and we discovered the crank bolt is not 9/16-18 but rather 14mm 1.05 and he had a couple of strut bolts. Bingo.
Fashioned my press and installed the pulley. Added coolant and fired it up. No exhaust.
just needed to hear it come to life.
Now just need to reinstall exhaust. Some body panels and get it out of the garage,

Next need to figure out the transfer case. It is suppose to be a quadra drive. Just 4L and 4H on console but the it is labeled from the top 4L N 4H 2H. Was looking at the transfer case. It has a electronic speed sensor and a electronic shift indicator plugs. Neither one has wiring going to them. It has a label or rather a round plate fastened to it. Will need to do more research.

This is what I did to my GC today. It was a good day.

Get the numbers off the round disk and post them, can tell you what you've got.

No mine is a Quad drive with a replacement transfer case to now make it a select trac. My shift pattern is reverse to what you show. Would like to find that shift pattern to swap out with mine. Can always modify the linkage to reverse it.

By the way ...it runs like it should....sweet. While rebuilding it I discovered that it had a mod done to it. A 2" lift. But it handles weird. It seems to be floppy on the road. Like a really stiff steer problem. It doesn't steer hard or anything it seems like the upper and lower joints are really stiff. No free play. I think it may be a seized u joint in the steering shaft. Any thoughts?

Had my GC to work today. Sweet....
