Even a Detroit Locker won't be a problem in a D30. I run a Detroit in the
D30 on my CJ, and I can't remember the last time the hubs were not locked.
Basically, I have been driving my CJ in the exact conditions that will be
encountered in a TJ, and I have a locker and have never had any steering
related issues. It does get a little noisy when I pull into a parking spot,
but it steers just fine.

Lol. You know, I like the older Jeeps and actually own a pre-AMC CJ-5.
I wouldn't have any problem at all with Bill except that he insists on
trashing the new stuff. It would really easy to come back by arguing
that the older stuff is crap, even though it isn't. I will say that I
think Rube Goldberg was on the engineering staff for Bantam/******/
Kaiser/whoever designed my 1970 CJ's steering system. The newer rigs
have their own set of issues but at least most of the old ones have been
eliminated.
Bottom line, if you don't think ABS offroad is a good idea, pull the
stinkin' fuse, or disable it in some other manner on YOUR rig. ABS is a
benefit on the road in winter conditions, period. Assuming the operator
doesn's screw it up by second guessing the system. If a person gets in
a wreck as a result of letting up on the pedal when ABS kicks in, of
course they are going to blame the system. Couldn't be operator error,
no way *grin*.

Yes, I was thinking of the Jeep Trac-Loc option:
