That's a killer for me, it's a very big increase in the cost of running
the critter. I noticed the 4.7 V8 has a high performance version that
requires premium and I'd sure be avoiding that model. I'd like the
extra performance but I'm too cheap to pay for it. ;-)

Makes sense to me, the SRT8 is WAY too expensive for me to ever

You don't mind if I completely ignore your rant, do you? I've had
quite a few vehicles since the feds began issuing mileage figures and
every single one of them has matched or slightly bettered the figures
given. So, for me, their figures are completely revelant for real
world driving conditions.

I should point out that, unlike most, I really do know my gas mileage
for each vehicle. I keep a log and record gallons, miles used and mpg
for every tankful and I figure the year's average mpg for each vehicle
every January.

*Only* 100K miles? ;-)
I bought a used 95 XJ 2 years ago.
It had just under THREE HUNDRED K then, with a rebuilt engine that
supposedly had "only" about 50K on it.
No major problems so far (knocking on wood as I type this).

If I had to pick the best model year for a WJ, it would have to be
the '04. It had the longest production run (started in 1/03) and
much of the crap that kept breaking on the WJs was removed. I would
also pick the i6 over the v8 (for repairability/reliability reasons
only--the v8 is much more fun if you are a lead foot).

of the unreal EPA MPG estimates that are listed on the new car window
stickers.

The 4.7HO is listed as being able to run on the cheap stuff as well as
on premium. The engine changes the way it burns the fuel to compensate
for the higher or lower octane.
