Jeep Realiability
Lo Jeepers,
My other half pointed out an article in a local (UK) paper (Daily Express). Which quotes from the "Warranty Direct Reliability index" which is itself compiled from garage bills of 39k cards with an average age of 4.8 years and have a average millage of 49,702 miles. Top of the table was Mazda with an average repair bill of £275 and a 16% failure rate. Second is Ford with an average repair bill of £207 and a 32% failure rate Third is Honda with an average repair bill of £277 and a 20% failure rate) Right down at the other end.. At 21st comes Land Rover with a average repair bill of £420 and a 44% repair bill and an average failure rate of 44% 22nd comes Subary with a whopping average repair bill of £1040 and a 21% repair bill and Lastly but not least comes Jeep in 23rd place (last) with an average repair bill of £587.92 and an average repair bill of 41%. Not great recommendation for the Jeep really, although since the highest failure rates in the chart being 4x4 related brands it makes me wonder quite how much driving an over engineered road vehicle makes sense. Re: Jeep Realiability
My personal philosophy (sure to be disputed/debated/etc.) on Jeeps are
that if you drive one, you do your own maintenance/repairs. If you want a vehicle that 'makes sense', you drive the Mazda or the Honda. IMO, there aren't many situations anymore these days where a Jeep 'makes sense' (unless you intentionally go looking for those situations), but I sure wouldn't trade mine in for anything else. :) Dave http://home1.gte.net/res0p2es/david/index.htm On Wed, 24 Sep 2003 08:59:58 +0000 (UTC), Gyp <gyp@localdomain.net> wrote: >Lo Jeepers, > >My other half pointed out an article in a local (UK) paper (Daily >Express). And it gets lousy gas mileage, while offroad too.

Re: Jeep Realiability
I wonder if they were comparing vehicles driven under the same
conditions. I bet not; I would expect a Jeep to be put through much harder driving conditions. Try taking that #1 reliability ranked Mazda Miata on the some trails at Moab. I bet it wouldn't have a lower repair bill than a Jeep... |

Re: Jeep Realiability
There is no question the there are marques that have better reliability
than Jeep. Jeep is essentially a special interest type vehicle. If you are not interested in doing with your vehicle what the Jeep was built for, buy another brand. If you are interested in offroading, there are not many vehicles, anymore, that are as capable offroad as what Jeep has to offer/offered. Just a matter of buying a vehicle that fits your intended purpose. JMHO. Gyp wrote: > Lo Jeepers, > > My other half pointed out an article in a local (UK) paper (Daily > Express). Re: Jeep Realiability
I wonder if there is any connection between pride in ownership and vehicle
repair. You would think that somebody who liked their vehicle would take care of it more than say....somebody who only used their vehicle for pure transportation. Brian 88 YJ |
