Getting rid of the third class medical is its only advantage, and that
should have been done a long time ago. People with waiverable
conditions or prohibited ones whom the states allow to drive a
noncommercial motor vehicle are a far greater threat to the lives and
properties of others if impaired while driving a car than flying a
LIGHT aircraft. (The Hawker Hunter that demolished a house the other
day is not a light aircraft: it was a 16,000 lb bomb, and yes pilots of
those should meet airline medical standards.)
Better yet: Since a "light aircraft" is 12,500 pounds, declare an
"ultralight" to be 1250 lbs under Part 103.

Well then you'd be wrong and it's been that way for 35 years at least.
High-performance/complex rating which I have gets you into some pretty
big single-engine aircraft. From your remarks, it doesn't sound like
you are either a pilot or haven't been current in many years.
