There is a VW Touareg TDI that I meet every now and then when it is in
state. Far cleaner exhaust overall than a goodly number of the gas
burners I see every day on my commute. There *is* still a problem with
aerosol emissions from even the super high pressure diesels but it isn't
unbeatable. The emissions checks will need to change to make sure that
owners get their filters changed when needed, but I don't see that as
fundamentally different than keeping a cat in good shape. Be
interesting to see what VW/Audi does with the results of their new
racing diesel that is smog legal. Still wonder if a combo electric
gasoline might offer the torque of a diesel and the rpm range of a
gasoline.
Or we might all have to just start carrying big rubber bands, or
squirrels, or long extension cords soon.
