Re: Availability of a 360 in a Jeep CJ
Hi Mike,
American Motors Corp. could have easily sponsered race team like
Ford and Chevrolet did and called them factory experimental. It's their
engine, just like Chevy's 427 Camaros only came with the 396 or the the
429 over head cam went into the Mustang or Fairlane that ordinarily max.
at 427, 428, 429 push rod, and the 426 Hemi went into the little Super
Bee. If AMC didn't then no wonder they went down the tubes. They were
running a full out Javelin earlier.

Re: Availability of a 360 in a Jeep CJ
Would the VIN reflect that or the engine code itself?
You are right, I have seen a Gremlin with the 401 or maybe bigger in
it. That was a police special up here in Canada. Only ever saw the one
though, but man could it go....

Re: Availability of a 360 in a Jeep CJ
Super Bee, little????
I think maybe you mean the 1968 Dart and Barracudas that Chrysler built for
Super Stock drag racing. These cars still dominate the SS/A and SS/AA NHRA
classes.
http://members.aol.com/MoParNuts/ss-a.htm
These cars were almost 1000 pounds lighter than a Super Bee, and were the
only ones ever available from the factory with the true high compression
race Hemi with made well over 500HP right from Chrysler.

I think maybe you mean the 1968 Dart and Barracudas that Chrysler built for
Super Stock drag racing. These cars still dominate the SS/A and SS/AA NHRA

These cars were almost 1000 pounds lighter than a Super Bee, and were the
only ones ever available from the factory with the true high compression
race Hemi with made well over 500HP right from Chrysler.
