The dana 44 in the rear of my CJ has one piece, 30 spline axle shafts.
I pulled one and checked. It *might* have been swapped in, but I doubt
it since the rest of the vehicle has been left pretty much stock. I do
know that it says Kaiser on it but it isn't stored locally so I can't
easily check details. If it were really important I could probably get
in touch with at least one of the previous owners who had it years ago.
The guy I bought it from never did much with it and probably knew less
about it than I did.
The best thing about it (other than the rear axle) is that the frame
hasn't been butchered, so it is a good project rig. It may be possible
to repair the body but it will be a lot of work.

Nope. Mine has the model 18 transfer case with the offset rear output,
so my dana44 with the 30 spline, one piece axles is also offset. My
understanding is that they used this axle for about a year and a half
starting in mid 1970 and ending with the introduction of the centered
rear output model 20 transfer case in 1972. The 30 spline, offset
pumpkin axle is a popular upgrade for earlier Jeeps if you can find one.
I paid $200 for mine and got the rest of the Jeep thrown in for free.

Re: '70 Renegade Help
Hi Del,
I can tell you this '69 Jeep had the two piece axles, that we
switched it to the center drive 44 that had the one peice for the 350
Buick V8, Turbo 400, and Dana 20, as a unit straight from a Gladiator:
