Once you figure out that lifting the body up a couple inches it makes a world of difference and makes it a lot easier.
Same if you've never taken the front or rear covers off your diffs before. If you don't lift one side a couple inches there is 1 bolt on each diff that is almost impossible to get a wrench on. Even worse on WJ's at stock hieght.

Oh so thats the trick! Boy is it a pain in the a$$ if you do it the other way took me forever to do the rear diff. Ended up diconecting the sway bar that made it easier.

Looks great Birdman, very nice.
So when does the disease really set in? Looking at lifts and armour yet? :)

Mattz, was a bit of swearing involved before I realized that if I just put the floor jack under the frame the sway bar would lift past the bolt.

The adventure is going to be with the PCM, if its going to yell at me or just operate without throwing codes... lol its not like i can disconnect everything and see if the tranny keeps on running without throwing the codes...

might just try that lol

The tires look good Birdman!

@ the 04WJGuy quote that Mattz posted...

I have some really tall jacks that'll keep stock tires and suspension fully dropped without touching the ground, gives a ton of room for working on all that stuff... and was so handy when i had my Axle out.

4- 6ton stands, one of the better investments for working on the Jeep. Next to owning your own vehicle hoist!

It would be nice to find out if you could use the PCM out of the manual instead of the automatic but I guess there's really only one way to find out.
Would hate to see you go through all the work involved just to find out at the end that it's not going to work and it's just going to keep going into limp mode.

I was thinking i could coax the PCM to thinking the tranny is always in neutral, then let the NV3550 do all the work and connect the reverse shift light, and it should be good to go...

its going to be an adventure for sure...
the NV4500 would be great for a crazy crawler rig which would just be hell for a daily driver trail rig i plan on it being for the next few years... 5.61 First gear... woooh

But how would the PCM set the idle and fuel/air mixture at speed if it always think's your in neutral?

5.61...you looking at putting Dana 60's under that thing now?

Oh god, what did I just start..............

Well i know i've got to put in a new front soo :-P
And you know the thought of putting in 60's has popped in my mind lol the problem is getting all the brackets all lined up for it being hell...

so thats way down the road.

Im pretty sure thats all going off engine RPM mapping from the PCM, nothing to do with the TCM, so air/fuel is being adjusted from the O2 Sensors at the RPM levels...

so that stupid round connector i've got to figure out which one gives me park neutral and common, link them together and let the rest alone...

Crawl ratio calculator

Stock 42RE is 2.71 - 2.71 - 3.55, which gives a 26:1 crawl ratio = lame

NV3500 is 4.01 first gear - 2.71 tcase and 3.55 rear gear 38.58:1 with a 242... (70mph @2170RPM)
56.94:1 with the 4:1 transfercase.
65.76:1 with 4.10 gears and 4:1 transfer case.

The NV4500's 5.61:1 first gear- 242 transfercase 2.71:1 - 3.55:1 stock gearing... it would be 54:1

Eventually i'll have a NV4500, 5.61, rocktrac or atlas at 4:1, and 5.38 diff gears. for a total crawl ratio of 120.73:1... talk about disgusting!
