Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

my 42RE is still leaking...

JB weld is really holding the most of it together... but it just cant work the kinda magic i need it to... but when all else fails... add more!

going to see if i can pin point the spot that its leaking and see if theres anything i can do to patch it...

I really need it not to leak for a while, so i can sort out the 5 speed.
thats going to be hell.

Nice to know JB is holding out....

and yes the 5 speed will be quite a task
I too would like to do the switch and I have a friend that has one rotting on his farm but I need time and a warm spot to do it and as this is our DD, then the project will be on hold.

I did however tear apart the tailgate and to my surprise the latch is missing the one and only nut to hold it in. The lock actuator doesn't work and I traced the basketwieve of wiring and couldn't figure out the rw defroster.
Tested the switch, all seemed to pass.
Buttoned her back up and to my surprise.......now the rw defrost button seems to be workin...the light comes on and off like it is suppose to....

Now, I am hoping for some frost to test it...LOL..
So I did get some progress today...LOL..
Oh, and I power washed the underneath and tomorrow we are expecting mild temps so I can spray on the undercoating...

Now wifey wants me fx the D**m heated seats...LOL,,,She has cronic back and hip pain, so they will help her. And I am a bit of a softy too, so I am looking forward to warm leather for the cold Canadian winters...

to test your rear defog strip you can use a multimeter and actually touch the traces on the back glass and reference ground of course (make sure the back gate is grounded ofcourse, that could play with the actuator aswell!)

there is so much JB weld on my 42RE its just redicilous to think id drive it... but ya gotta do what you've got to do...

i've looked into the swap for a few months now, its a matter of if the PCM is going to freak when the 5 speed is in and the tranny wants to shift... of course most of this is controlled by the TCM in the PCM... i suppose i could just disconnect those relays and fuses... that might be something to test tomorrow...

Today, I put the roof rack back on, and wrapped it in lights for the Christmas toy run (for those kids who's parents can't afford toys) that we're doing tomorrow...Should be a good day...lots of people said they're coming out for this one!

Later.

wow did i ever need a Tie Rod adjustment.. my tires were 60" to the reference points on the front, and 60.75" in the back... (its not supposed to be more than 1/8" wider in the back toe in)

Once i did this drag link was on the money... time for a test drive. :3gears:

Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

OMG it drives straight down the road, and pulls to the passenger side just a little (which it would normally) the passenger tire also has significantly less tread than the driver side so i might have to make a small adjustment when i put on new shoes.

camber looks good as well, close to 0° and caster should be stock since no suspension changes have been made, turning radius is about the same both ways around...

I am getting a popping noise when i hit a small bump... no noise when im crawling (like i wouldn't get it sideways) its coming from the passenger side so im going to go over all the suspension bits and make sure its all Copenhagen and torqued to spec..
