Re: still looking
Well, you have the wrong vehicle to modify. You cannot go any bigger
than a V6 or a 4 banger, it won't even fit a straight six 4.0 engine. They changed the design in 87 so the larger engine will fit. I have heard of a 3.2 or maybe a 3.8 fitting in. You have a GM bellhousing I believe on it. As far as a lift goes, unless you want to get into the thousands, you are limited to 2" or so. A 2" spacer kit isn't too expensive or hard to put in depending on your local rust levels. Getting the shocks off is the hardest part... Re: still looking
Mike,
I believe he can put the grill or front clip from an 87+ model on it, to fit a 4.0 engine. This might make enough room for a V8. It seems like a lot of work though. There is a lot of information on the Advance Adapters web site, including the 3.8 GM V6 conversion, but it doesn't look as if they have actually done one. http://advanceadapters.com. This engine comes supercharged in some vehicles. A guy in Littleton, CO put a GM V8 diesel in one, after finding out all the fixes to get decent service life out of the engine. He bolted it up to a stock AX5 transmission though, which he had to rebuild every 40,000 miles or so.
