He's a Mark 1, Mod 1 peckerwood. He can be a helpful source of
information usually when that piece of information is something you
should have either known had you RTFM or is generally known to people
who do that sort of thing all the time. You want to do something he's
never heard of, well, he will make you feel dumb for wanting to, tell
you it can't be done, or probably send you on a snipe hunt. Often all
three with some insults for good measure.
When I was a lot younger-during the CB boom-we used to have these
guys who were "channelmasters". Romain and him are the
"channelmasters" of this group. They are a little reminiscent of Jim
Goad and Jim Blanchard's comic "Trucker **** in Denial", what they
really are is court holders so they can impress all the newbi's with
their beneficience, wisdom, and almighty power. CB petered out in part
because the FCC refused to effectively curb the channelmasters,
keydowncasters, screamers, and assorted goofballs. The good guys went
to Amateur Radio and the channelmasters who were mostly old pharts
anyway died off for the most part.
If these guys were "all that" they'd run their own businesses, or
failing that they'd have at least created a moderated NG so they could
really manage dissent.

Name one lie that's been said about diesels on this group recently.....that's
right you can't. YOU posted a number of things that were factually untrue for
reasons incomprehensible to any normal person. You cited web sites that were
either irrelevant or a bunch of rubbish from some freak.
As for ABS-in the normal countries vehicles used offroad with ABS have a
switch, you can turn it off. Switches to turn off ABS are never factory fit on
vehicles sold in the US because of stupid American product liability and DOT
regulations. Just like the far safer Euro windscreens and probably thirty years
of WWII tech sealed beam headlights on US spec cars vs. modern tech headlights
on the Euro sold ones.
Daimler Benz have done a couple of dodgy things over the years...but on the
whole MBZ makes the best engineered passenger vehicles on the planet. Not
necessarily the cheapest to service or amenable to jackleg repairs-but overall
the best and safest, the only rival being Volvo. Volvo cars today are Ford so I
doubt that will continue. Jaguars today are becoming Lincoln-Mercury and Aston
Martins have V12's made out of Ford Taurus blocks. You ought to be happy DCX
owns Jeep and not Ford.
In the long run DB innovations like using CAN for cars will be seen for the
right thing.
