Yep. How I fondly remember the mile upon mile of wintertime
squeek squeek squeek squeek squeek squeek squeek until the
speedometer cable in my C-10 Chevy finally warmed up.
Still have an adapter for my grease gun that's used to lube
the cable. First time it got used I gave the gun a couple
of good pulls and it filled up the speedometer. oops. Needle
stayed put at 40 till I took the dash apart and degreased it.

Re: No speedo
55 means the codes are finished being displayed. I forget what 11 and 12
are, but think that one of them is a loss of battery power.
Your tcase has a speed sensor inside that is merely a gear driven device
that sends an electrical signal back to the computer that does whatever the
computer does with this sort of stuff. Among the things the computer does is
it sends it along to the speedometer which in turn displays the speed you
are going.
My guess is the speedometer itself is the problem here. You can check
though, try using the Cruise Control. If the Cruise works, the speed is
being sent from the tcase. If the Cruise doesn't work, then the tcase speed
sensor in the tcase should be examined.
To check the speed sensor, locate the tailhousing on the tcase, then move
forward along the tailshaft housing until you find a wire or two that plug
in. You can remove a single bolt and pull the sensor out. It has a gear on
one end that might not be mating properly with its mate inside the tcase.
The sensor is mounted on an ecsentric that is designed to accomodate
different sizes of gears -- these different sizes are needed to offset
optional tire sizes that Jeeps frequently have installed. My point is, the
ecsentric can be turned to change the location with respect to the variouis
gear sizes. If the ecsentric is not turned properly, the geras will not mesh
and there will be no speed sensor output. If there is no speed sensor
output, there will be no Cruise Control, or speedometer.
If the Cruise works properly, then you have lost the ground for the
insturment panel, and if you look closely, other guages don't work right
either.
