We called it by it's nomenclature: M151 Military Utility Tactical
Truck. Calling it a Jeep would sound as stupid as calling an M16 a gun, and probably get you a hundred push ups. Actually the cage was a standard mod on the Canadian vehicles. They
were added in in the mid 70s when it was noticed that the death rate from accidents was going up after seat belts were installed in the early 70's :(. The US military added a similar ("ROPS") cage to thiers about the same time. Moral? Seat belts save lives, but only in Jeeps (or things that look like Jeeps) when used in conjunction with a properly engineered roll cage. Howard. p.s.- The cages are made out of steel too :). h.
