I also need the last 18" or so too on both sides and a new rear cross
member.
The shop mentioned putting a square tube sleeve over the frame ends and
welding the shackle hangers and cross member onto those.

Nope....
I lost my gas tank last year when the cross member rotted and it and the
skid plate fell off on the trail 5 hours from home...
I finally got my tank out of the back seat and back under and it is held
in place by cargo straps with no skid plate.
It drops off out of the way in seconds....

Nope....
