Re: Cal's YJ: First ride!
What they *really* needed was a high pinion in the rear! That would have
made small to moderate lifts a *whole* lot easier and cheaper!

I ordered a CV shaft from Tom Woods because I knew that angle would
demand it, and since the original would no longer fit...
I have a lot of travel now, though, especially with the revolver
shackles. If I hand turn and feel binding at full droop then I'm going
to go for a _double_ CV shaft.
Still waiting for Woods to send me the correct yoke. I took the original
out, went to put in the new one they supplied...too big. I was able to
put the old one back in, but now I need a new oil seal.

I haven't off-roaded yet, have driven it to work sites the past two
days, had it up to 80 mph on the freeway, and man, does it handle great.
No track bars, no sway bar. Just new Rancho shocks and the same old 2.5"
5-leaf lift spring packs it came with. I've slowly crept up my top speed
until I feel safe and sure. A buddy commented on how good it handled.
However, my axles are now 13" wider than they used to be, too. That has
a lot to do with the feeling of stability, I feel.

True. I don't even notice any deficiencies now. I just know when to step
on the brakes.

CV. Once I get the proper yoke, I'll bolt it up and check it out. I like
being able to hoist the whole thing in the air and turning the shaft by
hand at full droop or full compression to check for binding. I'm
skeptical, but we'll see.

I hear ya. It was agonizing waiting for my axles. D60 front! Now that's
hard core! I'll wait until I bust the new 44, then I'll think about it!
