Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
To check the toe in I use a tape measure. My tires wear perfectly so I
must have it right.
I note the location of the seam in the tire tread mold and use that as a
marker point. I measure just under the frame in the front from side to
side at the seam, then do the same at the back of the tire. The front
measurement should be about 3/16 less than the back measurement on your
size tires I think. I use 1/4" on my 33's.
This means you want a slight toe in. If it toes out it will wander or
get squirrily as someone else posted.

Mike,
That may be the case with a 2.5" lift, but the OP was talking about a 4"
spring lift with his 1" lift shackles. You MIGHT get away with running the
stock shaft combined with an engine lift and t-case drop on a 4" lift, but
I'd rather not loose hard-earned inches with a t-case drop.

Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
Mike,
That may be the case with a 2.5" lift, but the OP was talking about a 4"
spring lift with his 1" lift shackles. You MIGHT get away with running the
stock shaft combined with an engine lift and t-case drop on a 4" lift, but
I'd rather not loose hard-earned inches with a t-case drop.

Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
Mike,
That may be the case with a 2.5" lift, but the OP was talking about a 4"
spring lift with his 1" lift shackles. You MIGHT get away with running the
stock shaft combined with an engine lift and t-case drop on a 4" lift, but
I'd rather not loose hard-earned inches with a t-case drop.

Re: 87 YJ magically turned into a '92 XJ
I was basically saying that he can just go the 2.5-3" like we have and
put a 1" body lift on with a 1" engine mount lift if needed to get the
driveshaft angles right. With the engine lift, there is no need for a
t-case drop.
He is still 'shopping' for ideas I thought...
That extra inch of lift can cost several thousand extra $$$....
I guess it all depends on his needs. I find our lifts to be fine for
the wheeling we do up here in the Canadian Bush.
Our lifts are also taking into account these Jeeps are daily drivers.

Our lifts are also taking into account these Jeeps are daily drivers.

put a 1" body lift on with a 1" engine mount lift if needed to get the
driveshaft angles right.

What you're saying here is that the body lift and engine mount lift
would kind of cancel each other out? how does this work? I think I
have a general idea, but just for clarification's sake...

I certainly am, Mike, and I appreciate all the help and info you guys
have given me. Without you guys, I would have most certainly had to
find out the hard way about a lot of stuff (I probably will find out
the hard way about a lot more, too).

As mine is/will be. Probably both the YJ and XJ will be essentially
daily driveable vehicles - although in the future one (or another)
vehicle will become trail dedicated, but that's another show.
As always, thanks a lot.
