Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
So you had an oil leak in the original engine. They screwed up the gaskets
on it and it leaked all over the place. Then the engine started knocking?
Sounds like the ruined an otherwise good engine. Then you had them install
another engine? And they forgot to properly install the belt brackets?
Sounds like the reman engine wasn't quite the same and they half-assed the
install of the new one.
You need to talk to a lawyer about suing them for having wrecked the
original engine along with potentially having ruined this new one. Be
prepared with THAT information BEFORE you go back to the shop. Make it
clear what dollar amount you want to "go away". Make it clear it'll be that
amount multiplied by a lot more if you have to file the a suit against the
shop. Meanwhile, have someone else take a close look at the work that was
done and make sure it's not going to get worse. Take the money you get from
the shop and handle anything else that needs to be done to the engine. Then
sell the vehicle.

Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
Sorry to barge in so late on this thread.
What is the engine (displacement)?
The Laredo 86 came with a 2.8L and was 'externally balanced'. Most
re-mans are internally balanced (for Chevy S-10, etc.) and there are
important 'changes' needed to swap in the std. GM/Chevy engine. If not
done then there can be some serious 'trouble' down the line.

Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
Good guess and that's how many think of the term today, but the original
newsgroup use of "troll" was as a verb. Think of a rod, reel, line,
some largish body of water and a spoon with some hooks on it. You pull
it along, waiting to see who bites and then you reel him in.
