I understand your frustration, particularly on the engine warranty.
However, those mid-late 80s Jeep products were notoriously unreliable with
horrific repair rates, and yours is now 17 years old. It sounds like a lot
of different things all started to go south at once... that's the biggest
frustration and is not the shop's fault.
Hindsight does you no good, and I'm sure you're frustrated by putting so
much $$ into a vehicle.
3 yr/36k is all the warranty I got on my new Passat, so although you
thought you were promised more, it is not uncommon any more for even new
vehicle warranties not to be that generous.
Other than the misrepresentation on the vehicle warranty (which sounds
more like was made out of ignorance than fraud), most of this scenario
just sounds like rotten luck"
I don't feel crazy anymore. I am a middle-aged lady with no autotech
skills and some basic knowlege about maintenance of vehicles. I drive
alot, 100 miles a day or more--I own a cleaning business. I do know every
sound and vibration in my old jeep. With the promise of a 75,000 mile
warranty and a 4 cylinder remanufactured engine, I believed that I wouuld
have a reliable vehicle for work for the next 4 or 5 years. I love the
old jeeep. It has been in our family for 13 years-the body and interior
are in great condition.
I went to Walgreen's (5 Blocks) last evening and there is oil falling out
of the car. I can't believe it. I guess I am going to Jiffy Lube as soon
as they open 12/7/05. Again I thank you all for your supportive comments.
Because of them, in spite of everything, I feel bolstered enough to ask for
restitution.

Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
I know lots of people who are still driving these "notoriously unreliable"
mid-late 80s Jeep products, some paying little or no attention to
maintenance. I disagree with the poster who says that most of your problems
are bad luck. It sounds more like incompetent mechanics to me. It sure as
heck should not be leaking oil now, after all the work you had done on it.
When I pay money to have an engine replaced, I expect not to have to worry
about engine-related issues for a long time.
Just so you know, there are several reliable engine rebuilding businesses in
the Denver area. That is where I would have taken the vehicle, as soon as I
expected that a rebuild was needed.
You should, in theory, be able to drive this vehicle 100 miles a day
indefinitely, but that is assuming that you find a good mechanic to help you
with all the inevitable things that are going to happen. Keep looking. If
you trust the folks at your local Jiffy Lube, maybe that is a good place to
start. Who do they recommend for future repairs?

Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
Our 88 Cherokee has over 310K km on it and it still runs great. We have
only had to do 'normal' maintenance on it and it still only uses a quart
of oil between changes...
I am sorry to say, but you got took bad in my opinion.
I really think it would be worth while to talk to a lawyer....

Re: 86 jeep cherokee laredo
Our 88 Cherokee has over 310K km on it and it still runs great. We have
only had to do 'normal' maintenance on it and it still only uses a quart
of oil between changes...
I am sorry to say, but you got took bad in my opinion.
