Re: What Did You Do To Your GC Today

We're having similar weather here and mine does the same thing to some degree and my door seals are good. The heating system uses a/c to de-humidify the air when the defrost is on, problem is at these temperatures, any snow or ice that you bring into the vehicle with you when you get in gets melted, humidifies the air and then condenses on the coldest thing it finds, which is the windows. Don't know if there's an efective cure for it. I've not tried to start mine for a few days, and I don't think I'm going to unless I can pluck up the courage to go out and see if I can find the thingy for the block heater.

I found my block heater, but i dont have an outlet on the front of the house, have them on the sides and out back, but nothing out front... not even in my sunporch... my house is stupid lol

i used the rain x de icer in a spray bottle, and it quickly got rid of the ice inside, and there was hardly any additional ice buildup on it over night so i dunno this stuff looks pretty good for getting rid of it.... was a little warmer a hot -38C with the windchill...

my jetta actually started this morning lol

Tell me more about this rain x de-icer. sounds interesting. I have to go out tomorrow anyway so while I'm out there I'll plug it in for a couple of hours and try to start it. Did you have your jetta plugged in?

VW TDI's dont come with a engine block heater... the car techincally would start if the fuel was not frozen, id have to have Arctic Diesel in the tank which is good into the -50C's apparently... The solution for the VW is a aftermarket Zero Start in line cooler (which works amazingly apparently, plug in for 4 hours and instant heat in the vehicle at start up)
It doesn't help that i have atleast 40,000km on this fuel filter(it was in there when i bought it), i believe its due for a change, which i have a new one sitting next to my tool box...

i picked up the Rain X De Icer at Canadian Tire... its yellow in colour, smells a little like rain x, and clears the windsheld FAST... i left the jug in the jeep overnight says its good for -40C... for a couple bucks more than the blue stuff... i'll take it

I cant honestly remember if this stuff makes the water bead off the windshield like traditional Rain X or not... i know that they do make a product for the washer fluid that will make the water bead...

best way to keep the ice off the inside of the windshield is to knock the snow off your boots as your getting in, and if you notice any snow or water in your floor mat, dump it out. last couple of days here the weather has been so cold that the little bit of ice in my floor mat doesn't get a chance to melt before i get to work, lol

We've been using the winter rain-x wiper fluid since it came out. I saw the de-icer version but didn't buy any due to the fact that I still had the regular stuff in stock. The boss used to get through about four or five jugs of the blue stuff over a winter, but since we changed over to the rain-x fluid she uses one, or perhaps a little more. I'm surprised the jetta didn't come with a block heater.

floorboards are dry and ice free... always knock the snow off the boots... im just thinking it was that cold and the slightest bit of moisture seeping in just froze it right up...

thinking about it, i should check for where the previous owner ran his subwoofer wire... make sure its plugged up

i just gotta say, i love this thing, missed having a WJ so much, loved my ZJ but this thing is something else... once i get some new tires on this thing im going to be super happy, he's climbed some hills my old WJ and ZJ could never get up, with crappy tires... limited slips for the win (and maybe i'll upgrade to some real lockers some day)
