Re: Why no fuel effecient Jeep?
You are messing with the idle mix jets only. This affects anything
under about 1500 rpm, from there up, the main jets take over.
The idle mix jets are the important ones for off road though.
It also is pretty hard to get her too lean, you would have to have the
idle speed up over 1200 rpm.
The leanest you can get it while keeping a fairly stable 700 rpm or
whatever idle is called for is the way to go. I keep turning and
turning, a little lean, give it a shot of gas, a little more on the rpm
screw, give it a shot of gas, a little leaner, etc., etc.

My brother's '70 Torino (which I also drove through high school) had no smog
equipment that I can remember, just a vacuum advance on the distributor...
