U-Joint play?
How much play is a driveshaft u-joint supposed to have?
I've been getting a clunking noise occasionally when taking off from a
stop or when coasting in neutral at <5 MPH, and I noticed this weekend
that I can move the rear driveshaft u-joint about 1/8" side-to-side in
the differential yoke. The bolts holding the straps to the yoke are
torqued to spec, so is it time for new u-joints?

Re: U-Joint play?
If you can move the joint in the joke and the yoke is not moving, then your
u-joints are probably shot. Don't buy the 'heavy duty' sealed ones, buy the
standard duty greasable ones.

If it is really side to side this would mean the caps are not in all
the way. In any case they are probably damaged by now.
