Yes, it should be. Either that or the NP232. The difference is that the 232
is a Full time system with a Center Differential of sorts, wheras the 231 is
a Part Time system that has no center diff.
As you drive, the differentials in the axles handle the speed differences
from left to right on the same axle. In 4WD, the front and rear axles travel
much different lines (arcs) and the speed of the front and rear axles are
vastly different. The Center Differential accomodates this difference,
without it the transfer case takes a beating and eventually fails.

Mechanically, the NP231 and NP231 use very similar gear cases. The NP231
has a planitary gear setup for high/lo range and the NP232 has a
diferential gear in the same location.
