It's a "part time" system. So you only want to use 2H on hard
surfaces. 4H and 4L are for offroad/dirt/gravel only and will
damage the xfr case if you run it on hard surfaces.

You have the NP231.
Never use any 4WD selection on hard surfaces where the tires can get a good
grip. 4WD is intended for traction challenged conditions only.
