First off, find another dealership where they will give you a straight
answer. They can use the DRB scantool and pull tranny codes.
The VIC doesn't actually read anything directly from the tranny, just takes
info from door switches, transfer case, and the ECU(engine computer).
The door-open may just be a loose connector on the back of the VIC.
Cold weather operation with warm failure indicates something is leaking
inside. Could just need a seal kit. Check the tranny fluid level and
remove/clean/ reinstall the electrical connectors.
If it's not electrical, my first thought is bands, followed by a
sticking valve body.

Hmmm. The transmission computer for my `89 Cherokee is an RF _emitter_ and
completely overpowers any FM radio I try to install in the thing. I
wonder if that has anything to do with its liking to unlock/relock during
warm weather?

Re: Tranny problem on 1995 Grand Cherokee
Interesting....
Yes, it is likely related.
Could be a ground issue and the antenna cable might run close to the
shift module.
Ground issues change with temperatures.

Re: Tranny problem on 1995 Grand Cherokee
My 97 Grand Cherokee did this once and it was the throttle position
sensor that was bad, I almost had the tranny rebuilt but I ran into a
wise mechanic. We changed the sensor out in about 5 minutes and voila
problem solved. ( this is in reference the tranny problem)
With mine it never showed up in diagnostics but we attributed it to
being an intermitant fault.

Your year had a recall on that part

You never know it might be a simple fix like mine was...cross your

You never know it might be a simple fix like mine was...cross your
fingers.
>> Hi,
>>
>> My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a trans problem I cant figure out.
>> I've taken it to 2 places (a trany shop, and a Chrylser dealer). The
>> tranny shop says it may be electrical, the dealer says new tranny.
>>
>> The tranny sporadically gets stuck in limp mode (2nd - 3rd gear). In
>> the cold weather it works just fine. I think the problem is electrical
>> because along with the tranny acting up, the center console shows that
>> the driver's side rear door is open when it's not. It also
>> sporadically chimes that the door is open.
>>
>> Anyone have the same problem? If so, what wat the resolution if any?
>>
>> Thanks!
