Tranny problem on 1995 Grand Cherokee
 

Hi,

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a trans problem I cant figure out.
I've taken it to 2 places (a trany shop, and a Chrylser dealer). The
tranny shop says it may be electrical, the dealer says new tranny.

The tranny sporadically gets stuck in limp mode (2nd - 3rd gear). In
the cold weather it works just fine. I think the problem is electrical
because along with the tranny acting up, the center console shows that
the driver's side rear door is open when it's not. It also
sporadically chimes that the door is open.

Anyone have the same problem? If so, what wat the resolution if any?

Ok ... another subaru story ... there is a fuse that'll put the subaru into
limp mode. So maybe your jeep has the same. If so, might I suggest something
easy to start ... maybe make sure it's well seated and any associated
wiring, connectors are good.

Do you have a CB or other transmitter on board? Jeep shift modules are
sensitive to RF.

Otherwise intermittent seemingly unconnected wiring issues implies a
ground issue somewhere to me.

There is a main ground from the engine to the body and from the engine
to the frame. These are mesh wires that do rot out, especially for us
up in the salt/rust belt.

The sensors are usually all grounded at the same spot on the engine
block or inside firewall and are a bunch of small black wires going to a
bolt. They are on the rear passenger side of the block on the 4.0
engine.

Do you have a CB or other transmitter on board? Jeep shift modules are
sensitive to RF.
