Is it a one way valve or something like that?

Well, it is a button vent. In theory the cap keeps an air bubble under
it so water won't just pour in, but I have seen some, like on my T5
that are on the 'side' of the shift tower so there is 'no' seal at all,
just a dust cover.

I have also seen a pile of Jeep transmissions full of water.....

On a related question...... With an automatic is your transmission safe as
long as the fill tube in the engine compartment is above water?
