If you had done your duty you would know that an officer is in the
service for a life time, so in instead of being discharged as an
enlisted man is at the end of their six year obligation, they must
request it.
At the end of Vietnam War many soldiers were discharged as a quick
way to thin down the ranks. I'm short twenty days of my two years
US56375731.
