OT: Setting up a Jeep forum

Hey Dean,
I'm a relatively new member of the group but not to Usenet.
I have been on it since - wow - since before I upgraded to a 14.4 modem.
That should tell you how long.
I remember logging on to a black screen that scrolled wildly and scared me
half to death when I first saw the lists of groups.
I remember the first friend I made on Usenet. He was from Ireland and lived
there then. I was amazed at the idea that I could "talk" to someone from
there.
He was lurking in a group that was a Windows support group and helped me
enormously.
He helped me to understand my computer and the internet and then we became
buddies. I gave him a quirky nickname, it was noticed by a cute little gal
in AZ.
They fell in love online, and he eventually immigrated to the USA. They were
married a year or so later, have two beautiful daughters and though we don't
hear from them much, I always think of those days when I'm here. I think
that some of the folks here that are kind of like me. They like the old down
to earth approach and comradery of Usenet.
Unlike most of today's folks, I don't care for the new online forums.
I like Usenet, and will likely stick right here. The crown there tends to be
much younger than I am I guess, that may be part of it.
I've joined a few other groups in the past, Mustang stuff (before I traded
my Cobra in for my jeep) and even looked at some of the Jeep groups.
Each time I just walk away shaking my head and go back to the old trail I am
familiar with.
Another thing about the online groups is that I don't like the layout of
them and to me personally, it's an inconvenience.
I like opening OE and seeing my email and the groups I have subscribed to
all in one neat little package.
Kinda like my Jeep..
Usenet is old fashioned, misunderstood to many, abused by some and as a
general rule considered a quirky vehicle to get where I want to go
BUT
It has all I need and all I want - and it suits me perfectly.
