Order Jeep -> Lose Rebate??

I'm not ordering from an internet dealer, however I did check out the prices
at Edmunds.com and another dealer that is internet to compare what type of
deal I was getting. Mind you, when I purchased my XJ in 96 up in NJ NO Jeep
dealer gave "deals" - what was on the sticker is what they sold them at
minus any mfr incentives. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that
they "deal" down here in Houston.
I went to Jeep.com and built a jeep to my liking. You can then send the Jeep
you built to some local dealers. I sent it to about 5 (4 local, 1 40 miles
away which is actually closer timewise because Houston traffic sucks). They
emailed me back their prices. Well, a few of them did. Most of them said "we
don't have the White that you're looking for and totally disregarded the
fact that I went thru the trouble of stating White, Dual Top, and ABS and
told me to look at their inventory which they probably don't realize is
accessible from the Jeep website.
One thing I've learned is that some of these sales people absolutely don't
know how to read email and don't care what the customer wants and just try
and get you into the dealership and give you high pressure tatics. I stayed
away from those guys.
The place I ended up ordering from was a local dealer that responded to my
emails. I dealt with a "Fleet" salesman - at this dealership they also
handle Internet sales/inquiries. Absolutely the most unpushiest, honest, and
friendliest guys I've done business with in terms of car sales so far. He
gave me the best (lowest) deal over email (including 3 free oil changes). He
also ensured me that I wouldn't lose the rebate and that if the price were
to change for the worse I was in no way obligated to buy [since we have a
signed contract for a certain price].

Hey, I did the same thing. When I sent out the quote requests I was
sure to check off that I wanted to be contacted by e-mail only. A few
got back to me with price quotes via e-mail. But the rest left message
after message on my voice mail. My bad for giving the bastards my #,
but still. And the ones that called didn't call with quotes, they
wanted me to come down to their place. One dealer e-mailed me back and
said they'd like to invite me down for a test drive. I wrote him back
saying I'd already test driven several Rubis and that I just wanted a
quote so I knew who I was going to give my business to. Never heard
from that scumbag salesman again! Did you find that when you went to
the dealers you knew more about their product than they did?? Idiots!

wanted me to come down to their place.
Idiots!

Normally a rebate is for taking a vehicle from dealer's stock. The factory
goes to a lot of effort deciding what features you want, and they build ----
loads of vehicles configured that way, whether that is wht way you want or
not. If yo buy one of the units that the vacoty has configured for you, they
give the rebate. If the factory has to crank one out just for you
specifically, they do not give the rebate.

You need to order from dealer stock to get the rebate. If you can find a
dual top with ABS on a lot somewhere, then you should be able to get the
rebate. Honestly, I don't see that you order is all that wierd, unless there
are other options that you haven't told us about.
