Re: MSD Distributor for AMC v8 - anyone used it?
Went and got a new dist from the part store, it's the exact same size. I
removed the gear and it fits. So I now assume it is the gear mesh - but how
do I fix that?

Will you put it in and spin the engine with the starter and it'll
fall in just like support said.

I wish it would, I've spun the engine with the starter and pushed on the
dist, it just doesn't want to go. I can see the gears inside the hole, they
don't look bad, but something is not right here.

Re: MSD Distributor for AMC v8 - anyone used it?
Did the new distributor fit with the gear installed?
If not then you may have a problem with it's matching gear on the camshaft.
:-(
Guess what you might have to do now???? And before you remove the cover you
might want to remove the oil pump gears and see if you can fully seat the
distributor.
Is this a new aftermarket timing cover? Maybe it is not aligned perfectly.
There is a procedure for aligning the cover but it mostly pertains to the
seal and crankshaft sprocket.
Just thinking out loud.

Nope, neither dist will fit.

I'm thinking this is the case, but from what I can see the gear looks ok...
> Guess what you might have to do now????
Replace the camshaft? It's brand new - EDL 2132 - edelbrock made for amc
304s.

What cover are you referring to?

no its the original cover and it looks ok.

Re: MSD Distributor for AMC v8 - anyone used it?
does anyone know if the edelbrock cam for the AMC 304 - part # edl
2132 has a removeable gear? If it does, I think the installer put it
on backwards, that is why the dist gear wont mesh....If the gear is
not removeable I'm at a loss again!
