Yes and as far as I have ever seen or as far as my Jeep book says, the
tranny and t-case are separate entities, they don't share anything.

Re: may have broken transfer case
Hi Mike,
That would be true on your Dana 300, because your transmission uses
an adapter between the two. But the Dana 20 bolts directly to the
transmission and will look like this Dana 18:
http://www.----------.com/Dana18.jpg and the T 90 I previously referred
you to, where we can see the open ball bearings and even the overflow
hole open to the transfer, and in a line with the fill plug:
http://www.science.smith.edu/~ejense...213/trans8.jpg
Remember I've serviced hundreds of the older Jeeps, and learned to just
break the seal of the fill plug to check that it has plenty of fluid.

Re: may have broken transfer case
Yep, I did the exact same thing. Didn't realize until after taking the
transfer case out twice that the shifter was hitting the tub. Oh well, I
reseal the tc while I had it out so it wasn't a total waste of time. I used
a friends plasma cutter and cut the shifter, bent it forward, then welded
the seam that I cut. It works perfectly now. At least you caught it before
you removed the tc. I felt pretty stupid for doing that.

transfer case out twice that the shifter was hitting the tub. Oh well, I
reseal the tc while I had it out so it wasn't a total waste of time. I used
a friends plasma cutter and cut the shifter, bent it forward, then welded
the seam that I cut. It works perfectly now. At least you caught it before
you removed the tc. I felt pretty stupid for doing that.
