Didn't old-timey stock car builders install chain restraints on motor
mounts? Or am I making that part up?

Nope, you are remembering right. Mine has a safety bar across the
bottom as well as over stress latches on the mounts so if the rubber
tears, the engine can't lift out or fall out. Now with a shattered
mount like this last one, that bottom bar could be useful....

Hi Lee,
All motor mounts from the early seventies on are made to
interlocked so they still hold the engine from flopping over. Forties
years ago we would regularly hear of a car starting off in reverse and
because the engine with a broken left mount would flop to the right
under torque jamming the throttle wide open, sending the old Buick
dynaflow at sixty miles an hour in reverse. Last one I remember went
straight through a motel.

All motor mounts from the early seventies on are made to
interlocked so they still hold the engine from flopping over. Forties
years ago we would regularly hear of a car starting off in reverse and
because the engine with a broken left mount would flop to the right
under torque jamming the throttle wide open, sending the old Buick
dynaflow at sixty miles an hour in reverse. Last one I remember went
straight through a motel.

Hi Lee,
All motor mounts from the early seventies on are made to
interlocked so they still hold the engine from flopping over. Forties
years ago we would regularly hear of a car starting off in reverse and
because the engine with a broken left mount would flop to the right
under torque jamming the throttle wide open, sending the old Buick
