Killed another engine mount....

Damn, but it is hard to bitch about having too much traction....

My 33x9.5 BFG muds just don't spin, so they put amazing stresses on my
engine mounts, wheel locking hubs and u-joints.

I blew a hub earlier this spring and just found two new bolts snapped
off in it so I have to pull it and try to get the stubs out.

Then the muffler shop was crying about a bad engine mount so I looked
and sure enough I had just shattered the sucker.

I didn't tear the metal off the rubber pad, I shattered the metal!

I have lost count, but I think that is the 4th or 5th blown mount over 5
or 6 years.

Oh well, 'you play you pay' as they say and we sure had/have fun
breaking it....

:-)

These are stock mounts, yes? Does M.O.R.E. or anyone else make something for
your CJ that might not break?

Yeah they do.

http://www.mountainoffroad.com/catal.../bombproof.htm

But strengthen your motor mounts and what breaks next? Hopefully a u-joint.

Re: Killed another engine mount....

Just thinking aloud here: I wonder if there might not be a useful "fuse"
effect at work here. If Mike finds stronger motor mounts and installs
them the next weakest link will break when he beats on his Jeep. The
next weakest link might not be so friendly.
