Say what you will about "AMC's designs", but I've owned two AMC CJ7s,
one AMC designed Chrysler YJ, and two Chrysler designed TJs. There is no
question that there are huge design improvements over AMC's YJ in the
development of the TJ.

It's a safety feature. You see coil springs make it harder to climb hills,
and if you get too high you could fall down. So the coil springs keep you
down on the road where it's nice and safe...
