That explains a lot. Now that sounds like mine. Below 15 degrees or so I have to be very careful not to push the button before unlocking the door. If I (or more generally, my wife) tries to open the door before unlocking it, we are in for a short delay while I fiddle with the lock. Something is dragging and not moving into position where the key can activate the lock mechanism. The is a spot in the travel of the lock button which will do the same thing - can't open the door, can't work the lock. Running a yellow snow concession stand?
If the wind isn't blowing, you can get used to it reasonably quickly, enough that if you are doing something like cutting wood, lopping trees, etc. you would get warm enough to need to take off a heavy coat. .. . . until the wind starts.
