Interior Door Handles: '93 Cherokee XJ
The driver's side interior door handle on my '93 XJ is somewhat
suspect. Although it still does the job opening the door, it just kind of hangs there... i.e. it doesn't "spring" back into place after I pull on it to open the door. Now, the other night, as my wife is exiting the passenger side, some sort of spring breaks, pieces flying, and that door handle no longer functions at all. Getting out of the vehicle being somewhat of a safety concern, I'd like to get both of them fixed. Any leads on the part needed and where I could locate them? Thanks. Mark '93 XJ |

I would be going there for parts after I removed both handles to make sure they are the only thing broken. Rolling down the window to let yourself out sure looks silly eh... ;-) Mike 86/00 CJ7 Laredo, 33x9.5 BFG Muds, 'glass nose to tail in '00 88 Cherokee 235 BFG AT's Canadian Off Road Trips Photos: Non members can still view! Re: Interior Door Handles: '93 Cherokee XJ
You need to open the door panels to see what is needed. My guess is that the
driver door mechanism just needs a good cleaning, and the passenger door needs a new clip or two, maybe a spring. This should be an easy job at home. There is a section in the auto parts store that sells HELP brand parts, many of which are door mechanism pieces. HELP parts are packed in red blister packs. On second thought, the color of the pack may denote the location of the part's usage -- internal part, external part, engine part, etc. (I'm not sure on that point, but I am pretty sure that the HELP parts that I've needed came in red packages. I've used HELP parts to repair ignition switch components, so red would be interior parts.) In any case, you should be able to find what you need out on the floor as opposed to getting the counter guy to look stuff up in his computer. "Mark E.
