With those lifters and rods in, will the valves close at any point in
the crankshaft's revolution?

Quite simply, Pull the spark plug from #1 and feel the air rush out as you
turn the crank to the 0degree mark. The air rush is the compression stroke
bringing you to TDC.

Re: Help! doing the 4.0 head swap on a 258!
Quite simply, Pull the spark plug from #1 and feel the air rush out as you
turn the crank to the 0degree mark. The air rush is the compression stroke
bringing you to TDC.

No. I couldn't even tighten any down without hitting the #1 and #6 cylinders
(both are up at TDC). Also in a previous post of yours you said there are 2
TDC's. That isn't really true. there is only one. The crankshaft can go to 0
degrees twice in a complete cycle and when it is at 0 degreees both times
the valves on number 1and 6 are closed.
