Gear beak in?
I finally took the dive and had 4.88s installed in my TJ. I've tried to
figure out the best break-in procedure, but everyone seems to have their own
opinion... and you know what they say about opinions...
So, what do you all recommend? Any of this based on actual experience?
What works best? So far the only common factor is a 500 mile fluid change
(some do it sooner, but still do it again at 500 miles).
Thanks!

I try for two hundred miles before I get on it, or hook up a
trailer.

Re: Gear beak in?
The way my shop has stated I should go is to:
1. Only drive 10 miles or less at a time and stop for 30 minutes after each
10 mile segment.
2. Do not drive over 50 mph.
3. Bring back to shop at 500 miles for fluid change/pattern check.
This 10 mile increment and under 50 mph wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have
to do it for 500 miles!

Hi Eric,
I'm thinking you told them you only have time for fifty miles, so
they went a long. I want it at full operating temperature, so pick a
town a hundred miles away and drive to it. Or when it begins to sing,
you'll be hearing I TOLD YA SO! ;-)
